Louisiana Congressman William Jefferson, a Democrat, flatly denied bribery charges accusing him of attempting, through various means, to illegally drum up over $500,000 from African business deals.  Jefferson declared Friday that he will fight to save his reputation, already besmirched by the mysterious $90,000 in cash found stuffed in a freezer during a 2005 raid on his Washington, D.C. home.

AP via My Way News:

A 94-page indictment, handed down Monday, details 11 separate bribery schemes and 16 criminal counts, including racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money laundering and obstruction of justice.

If convicted, Jefferson faces a possible maximum sentence of 235 years. His trial is scheduled for January.

Wow Cyrena, you have made some very interesting points.

It has been extremely easy for me to follow the points you have made after watching an episode of the History Channel on YouTube about the CIA’s experiments with LSD. Check it out: http://youtube.com/watch?v=STcZPWtiSXM&mode=related&search;=

After which, I came across some information about george w. bush being charged for rape in Fort Bend County, Texas and how the WOMAN mysteriously SHOT herself or “committed suicide.” http://ccweb.co.fort-bend.tx.us/docdetail.asp?id= NDXXcSn!jcnnsDM0T!Oc3O&ms=0&cabinet=civil&pg;=&id2=y8yMDAgQU0=!MTIvM3UYI!!!m1DnSTg6MzQIwVq0yIDk6N

I live in Jefferson’s district and he is awful, he isn’t a progressive or even political, he’s always been a criminal, like ALL of our polititicians in NOLA, no exceptions.

You’re probably right DennisD, and I wasn’t suggesting that he hadn’t committed all of these crimes, because I don’t know. Haven’t been in that particular state for a long time now, and I can’t say it’s one of the better places to be right now. It makes me very sad that it has been so wiped away, and that nobody cares, and that now this dude has apparently joined the ranks of all the other corrupt Congressman or their special interest masters.

I STILL think there could be some “embellishments” to the charges though. Some of the stuff I read, (and it wasn’t the entire indictment) sounded wacky…just from a technical perspective. Like, some of the counts could have been combined.

The way it’s constructed just makes it all the more “dramatic”. So yes, he’s probably done the crimes, but there’s a very strong political flavor to it, and while you suggest that he thought “no one would notice”, that’s hard to reconcile with the fact that his constituency has kept him in office for some decades now. So, apparently they DIDN’T notice, for a real long time. Or, it’s some new bad habit he’s picked up in recent years. Or, maybe a combination of a lot of things, but definitely there are political motives here, that add to whatever crimes he’s committed.

Guilty - next case. “Cold cash Jefferson” as he’s been known by in his home state. Elaborate frame up my ass, this is just another corrupt Congressman who thought nobody would bother to catch him with all the other thieves running around in D.C.

I admit, it does “look bad” for Jefferson. I mean this is a whole laundry list. But in all honesty, he really might be another case of an elaborate frame. I have honestly known a number of people who have kept cash in their freezers, (or mattresses) or any other number of places. It seems particularly common in certain pockets of our society’s multi-cultural atmosphere.

Now, I’m not suggesting that I’ve even known anyone to routinely keep that AMOUNT of cash in these various domestic cubby holes, but it really isn’t all that unusual, and without seeing the paperwork, it’s hard to know if they just made it all up, similar to what they’ve done with the fired US attorneys, and so many other professionals in the DOJ as well as other agencies). I mean, he certainly “sounds” guilty, but in today’s politics, he may be just another somebody that needed to be eliminated, and maybe one “crime” turned into this laundry list.

Matter of fact, there is a horrifying story of what the thugs are doing to the families of some Blackwater contractors/employees who have been trying to find out what/how/why their loved ones were killed in Iraq. (they were the ones that were captured and burned as effigies in Falluja in 2004) Anyway, Blackwater is now suing the estates of these dead men, (formally their employees) all because the family was looking for some answers.

The following article is by the lawyers representing the families of four American contractors who worked for Blackwater and were killed in Fallujah. After Blackwater refused to share information about why they were killed, the families were told they would have to sue Blackwater to find out. Now Blackwater is trying to sue them for $10 million to keep them quiet.

Someone should have simply given him a Haliburton job application.

That way, he would have the protection of the bush administration to look after the money he has stolen, instead of a freezer.
