Another Classic Appointment From George W. Bush

Posted on Jun 7, 2007
James Holsinger

Meet the president’s pick for our next surgeon general, Dr. James Holsinger, a man who once wrote that homosexuality is unnatural and unhealthy: “When the complementarity of the sexes is breached, injuries and diseases may occur.” Injuries? Can’t we just dowithout a surgeon general for a couple of years?

President Bush’s nominee for surgeon general, Kentucky cardiologist Dr. James Holsinger, has come under fire from gay rights groups for voting to expel a lesbian pastor from the United Methodist Church and writing in 1991 that gay sex is unnatural and unhealthy.

Also, Holsinger helped found a Methodist congregation that, according to gay rights activists, believes homosexuality is a matter of choice and can be “cured.”

“He has a pretty clear bias against gays and lesbians,” said Christina Gilgor, director of the Kentucky Fairness Alliance, a gay rights group. “This ideology flies in the face of current scientific medical studies. That makes me uneasy that he rejects science and promotes ideology.”

He denies the finding of the American Psychological Institute, and all the other scientific organizations.  Homosexuality is natural for some people and they should not be made to changed.
This guy probably belives in creationism…....He is in back of that crazy creationism Noah’s ark museum in Kentucky?

I guess we can agree on this; nobody in his right mind “can claim” that anal and lesbian sex is - “healty and normal”.

Everything - is open to argument and philosophical determinations, made moot by common sense..

Thanks for your reply.  Defining the words “Normal” and “Abnormal” has no disagreement from me.  My problem stems from, who decides, what is conformity and who gets to do the regarding of what is being normal and natural.

Semantics aside, this becomes philosophical and if indeed yours is a flat statement and plain matter of fact and not an argument or opinion. Further discussion is unavailable.

Maybe this James Holsinger can start by documenting the amount of cases who have become sick of this administration.

It seems to have already become an epidemic.

Leefellar ;
Mine is not an argument or opinion - mine is a flat statement and a plain matter of fact. Though I appreciate your well meaning comment.
As/per Webster’s collegiate dictionary;
NORMAL ; implies conformity with what is regarded as normal - the fact or condition of being normal and natural.
ABNORMAL; is anything that is irregular and/or un natural - the quality or condition of being abnormal or un natural.
Don’t you aggree ?

Using normal and abnormal as buzz words is supposed to be the substance of your argument?  Anyone can use those same buzz words for any argument.  For example, slavery used to be normal, having to sit in the back of the bus used to be normal for blacks.  I could go on.

Jonathan, with all due respect, what is normal to you may not be normal to me or anyone else, and visa versa.  I respect your opinion, not your argument.

Use of buzz words or labels shows a weakness in any argument.

Thomas Billis said ” To previous commenters yes there is a downside to anal sex just as there is a downside to vaginal sex.I guess I am the only one who has heard of stds.[i/]

No, you are apparently the only person that hasn’t heard that most STDs are more easily transmitted by anal sex vs. vaginal intercourse.  The main difference is vaginal sex can be practiced safely with a condom, but condoms can’t not prevent injuries during anal sex.

Again, get some sex education, people.

You all can argue back and forth as long as you like - but I think Mr Holzinger will be a fine Surgeon General - specially since he says homosexuality is “un natural and un healthy”.
Can anyone “intelligently & rightfully” argue against his point of view ?
Lesbian and anal sex is “un natural and abnormal” and is practiced by people of very low moral standards.
We can be thankful that only a mere 2 % of the American population undertakes this abhorant practice.
Aids is gradually taking care of their abnormal existance.
Those of us who consider ourselves to be “normal” will continue to be normal - and those who are “abnormal” will continue to insist that their lesbian and homosexual activities are normal - because it is exclusively normal to them !
Discrimination does not apply to them because they are not a Race. Many of us do not condone or excuse their despicable behavior - though we do not persecute them.
In a world of intelligent human beings - they have “no excuse” for their shameful abnormal behavior.

What cave do they keep finding these people. Is there a place called moron valley where only these people live. You keep thinking that with every nomination to an important post that they have exhausted the well of morons but to my surprise there is always one more.To previous commenters yes there is a downside to anal sex just as there is a downside to vaginal sex.I guess I am the only one who has heard of stds.By the way if the theory of evolution holds true the human body in succeeding generations may adjust to anal sex if it is widespread. If you do not like anal sex then you should not do it.If you like it then you should.

Does anyone remember when Surgeon General Jocelyn Elders was fired by President Clinton simply for uttering the “M” word?  She suggested that maybe boys entering puberty shouldn’t be told that masturbation would make them go blind.  Clinton’s caving in to moral scolds wasn’t his finest hour.  The Republicans don’t have a patent on ignorance, they’re just more proud of it than Democrats.

Why would anyone expect anything different from a Bush selection.

Cronyism is cronyism!

Holsinger being a Methodist, the segregation of a congregation, makes sense and is appropriate with the Methodist’s own concept of hypocrisy.  “Open doors, Open hearts and Open minds”.

In all fairness to Holsinger, a writing in 1991 may not mean anything today.  He may not even, have inhaled.

Aw SHIT!!! This is what I mean about stopping the bleeding. Now, this isn’t just about homosexuality and HIV, not even for anybody stupid enough the believe that one has to be homosexual to become infected. This very same ideologue will also manage to make all forms of contraception unavailable as well.

It calls to mind that last guy who was either the head of the FDA, or an assistant surgeon general, or something. I can’t remember his name. I only remember that he allegedly (and routinely) SODOMOIZED his wife of many years, until she finally escaped, and ended up exposing him. But more importantly, I remember that he was preventing the marketing of the “morning after pill”...the emergency contraceptive. He said it was because making that pill available, (over the counter or by prescription) would, (and I quote), “prompt WOMEN to become even more PROMISCUOUS” and of course lead to the downfall of society as a whole.

So, according to THIS guy, (a physican himself) women can get themselves pregnant, and SODOMY is the only acceptable contraception in a heterosexual relationship, since it’s generally accepted that it doesn’t lead to pregnancy. How’s that for medical logic?

Now fortunately, the morning after pill is at least dispensed by prescription, but only in certain states. I’m sure this new moron will change that. And, you guys keep saying there’s no point in impeaching the bastards that put these people in charge. See why I get frustrated?

Yo Mid-City Mike, are you saying homosexuals are dogs???  And I thought I was obnoxious…sheesh.  Dude chill out.

Now onto the topic.  It’s amazing how when someone disagrees with a liberal, he is being an ideologue.

I know that I normally do not saying anything unpopular or politically incorrect, but at this time I must.  HIV is a homosexual disease.  The Surgeon General must address this.  It is a medical issue, not an ideologically one.  Get over it.

As always,
Your loyal Humble Servant

Technically, gay sex IS unnatural AND unhealthy in a purely medical and scientific sense, without any ideology considered. The anus did not evolve to be to be penetrated during sex,  it does not stretch like the vagina and is subject to injury much more easily, and does not have the natural defenses against infection that the vagina does. Anal is unhealthy in general and the more frequently it is practiced, the greater the risk of injury and long term complications.

Let’s review what he said… “Gay sex is unnatural..” Well, it IS. any other species on this planet would kill off its homosexual members because they do not advance the species and share in the food (or in our case, society). “... may lead to injury or illness.” Hemorrhoids are more common then burberry amongst gay men, and AIDS IS an illness. Therefore, it would seem his comments do have scientific evidence to support it. Everyone shut up and quit B *tch*n!

“Injuries? Can’t we just go without a surgeon general for a couple of years?

Yes, injuries. Anal sex, the frequent sexual practice of gay men, can cause rectal injuries such as anal fissures. Didn’t you take sex ed in school?  You sound like you need an attorney general more than most people.
