Five Americans, a Canadian and a Briton died in a helicopter crash in Afghanistan on Wednesday, apparently shot down by a resurgent Taliban. The grim news from what some have called “the forgotten war” in Afghanistan comes amid mounting casualty reports from Iraq.

AP via Yahoo:

KABUL, Afghanistan—NATO troops on Thursday secured the wreckage of a CH-47 Chinook helicopter apparently shot down by Taliban militants, an attack that killed everyone on board—five U.S. soldiers, a Canadian and a Briton, officials said.

“There will be a full investigation,” said Maj. John Thomas, a spokesman for NATO’s International Security Assistance Force. “We will try to determine everything that happened and to fully investigate the site.”

A U.S. military official, who insisted on speaking anonymously because the crash was still under investigation, said initial reports suggested the helicopter was hit with a rocket-propelled grenade Wednesday evening.

Forgotten war, forgotten troops, forgotten military families, forgotten integrity, honor and human decency in the Bush-Cheney administration and in many Americans who support the Bush-Cheney gang ...

The article referenced below, written in 2005, is true today ... but much more blood has been spilled and much more pain endured by our troops and their families:

“Are the U.S. media and public ready to deal with the troops severely wounded in the Iraq war?”

Remember way back to when the Russians were in Afghanistan.

We supported the Afghanis with military hardware and training (including Bin Laden).

Remember how we rubbed our hands with glee at the spectacle of the “Commies” being shot out of the sky with missiles secretly supplied by our Government.

Would it be a shock to know that this is pay-back time.

Ron Paul understands what’s happenin’.

To the families of the deceased servicemen/servicewomen my profound regrets.  It probably makes it harder to accept that it is a very good chance that this Chinook could very well have been shot down with SAM that our government supplied to the afghanis to shoot down Russian aircraft.  Its what has come to be known as “blowback” and I believe our service people are qoing to pay a high price for past and present foriegn policies.  Sorry once again to all of the families that have lost loved ones.

On CSPAN yesterday, a military spokesman told gathered news persons that the Taliban was on the run and near total defeat.  Right!
