Russia’s Putin says U.S. plans for an anti-missile shield in Eastern Europe would turn the region into a “powder keg.”

Relations between the U.S. and Russia may be strained by the Bush administration’s planned implementation of an anti-missile shield in Eastern Europe.  Russian President Vladimir Putin had strong words for the U.S. Tuesday as Kremlin officials proudly unveiled new missiles—a month before Putin and President Bush will meet in Kennebunkport, Maine.

AP via My Way News:

Russia has bristled at the plans, dismissing U.S. assertions that the system would be aimed at blocking possible attacks by Iran and saying it would destroy the strategic balance of forces in Europe.

“We consider it harmful and dangerous to turn Europe into a powder keg and to fill it with new kinds of weapons,” Putin said at a news conference with visiting Portuguese Prime Minister Jose Socrates.

Bush, if given the chance, will piss-off everybody on the planet.

Oh, my mistake, sorry, sorry, he already has.

The irony is; he thinks he’s an internationalist, but in actuality he’s an isolationist!

Considering how mentally deranged our American leadership is, Putin would be an absolute fool not to prepare Russia for the confrontation. In our delirium, we are quite capable to decide that Russia needs to accept our democracy.

During the cold war, being a westerner, I was longing for a resolution and had trust in the west. Now, after a failed war in Iraq based on lies and the US’s pigheadedness towards climate change and so many other failings, I now trust Russia much more than I trust the US.

I simply don’t believe anything the US says anymore.

I thought it was understood the Europeans would shoot down any Iranian Missiles entering their Air Space, heading west.

Or is it just as it seems?  A not so veiled threat towards Russia?
