Family values:  Mary Cheney (left) will raise young Samuel David with her longtime partner, Heather Poe (right).

Vice President Dick Cheney and wife Lynne went to Sibley Hospital in Washington, D.C., Thursday to meet a very special new addition to their family:  daughter Mary Cheney’s newborn son, Samuel David Cheney, who’ll be raised by Mary and her partner of 15 years, Heather Poe.

Los Angeles Times:

Samuel David Cheney was born at Sibley Hospital in Washington, the vice president’s office announced. The vice president and his wife, Lynne, paid a visit to their new—and sixth—grandchild a few hours later and posed for a photo.

Comment #72422 by RC:

“Hard to admit this, but I think Dick Cheney is right on this one. People’s private lives should remain private no matter what their public positions are.”

*Ahem* Tell that to the current flock of Conservatives and Religious Right who are always passing judgement on people and who are trying to control people’s lives, public and private.

Dick Cheney is a tolerant guy: “I try to be open-minded about it as much as I can and tolerant of those relationships.” One can imagine that having a gay son/daughter can make a parent tolerant of “those relationships.”

But he is also a state’s rights guy: “[T]hat matter is regulated by the states. I think different states are likely to come to different conclusions and that’s appropriate.”

I like what Eric Alterman had to say:

“Lynne and Dick Cheney, two of the worst people in the entire world in every imaginable way, have a grandchild by their lesbian daughter, whom they exploit for political purposes when useful, but retain their popularity with the same people who torment gays not related to Dick and Lynne Cheney.”

Mr McCarty

You are nothing.  Your grandson is nothing. I am nothing.  We all are nothing.  All that matters is BIG MONEY.  The Pentagon is in on the game.  As is Congress.  It is a word. Two words. And the word is LOCKHEED MARTIN.  The biggest, baddest mother on the block.

So everyone go die in a corner, where no one can see you. And be sure to do it quietly.

From Defense moles in the Pentagon to lobbying Congress aggressively, Lockheed have their fingers in many pies.  Fighters, Transporters, Electronic Warfare, Military Satellites, Software, Homeland Security Contracts, Abu Gharib torture (Titan Corporation)

It doesn’t even matter if these items work properly.  All that matters is Lockheed convince the Pentagon and Congress they need them.  Each F-22 and F-35 costs $300 million.  They still don’t work properly and 2000 have been ordered.
That’s a $200 BILLION Contract.

And that is just one project in many.  Does any one seriously think nameless dead, or living, people mean anything to them.  Power justifies it’s own existence.  It beguiles; it corrupts; it persuades.  No law is too sacred; No act is too depraved. It turns even decent men into greedy WHORES. It’s a game.  A very lucrative game of maintaining and increasing wealth and power. Everyone else is busy caught up in more pressing matters, like eyeballing Anna Nicole Smith’s cleveage etc., etc.

Richard Perle and his Trireme partners (Kissinger etc,) are more than happy to cash in on the Iraq Gravy Train.  After all, it’s the future tax payers who will pick up most of the bill. They never have trouble with their sleep. The blood stains of dead US soldiers, Iraqi men, women and children will never splatter their clean suits.  And make no mistake, this is Blood Money.

I just hope Dick Cheney’s grand children don’t end up paying the ultimate price for future politicians who unscrupulously serve Corporate Juggernauts.

Lockheed Martin has become a Monster that demands to be fed.

After the pregnancy announcement, I heard one of the right-wing Christian slimeballs piss and moan about a child having to go through the trauma of explaining 2 mommies and no daddy to his little friends.  Well, I though that Mary and Heather would have some trouble explaining things to the child.  Like his grandpappy being a yellow-bellied coward as a young man, and then became a war-profiteering whore for Halliburton and is a drunken lout who shoots his hunting companions in the face and is an ugly lying lout.  Yeah, I have some compassion for a child born into such a lousy environment.

Dick Cheney has to hold his tongue until 1/21/09 when he can promptly tear W and all the other religious right homophobes a new one. It’s the least he can do for his daughter. He will do that, won’t he?

Mr McCarty

You do realize you will be accused of treason, cowardice and collusion with the “Terrorists” like the rest of us?
We are all smeared with such labels by the White House Spin Merchants of Fox News and that Napoleon of Dirty Tricks, Karl Rove.

Though I wouldn’t wish any harm to Dick Cheney’s grandson, I wonder if people like Mr Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Rove, Perle etc., can ever see past issues which only impact on their own personal zone of interests.  Not only did none of these “gentlemen” ever see combat, they actively avoided it; what chance their Family members ever seeing violent combat?

And to make things all the more grotesque,  they have, on the back of Working the System, become Millionaires.  (I thought it was a crime to profiteer from warfare like this?)

If the executive branch of government is being run by oily bureaucrats, I hardly think they will do anything more than pay cheap LIP SERVICE to the Honor and Sacrifice of your grandson, as they did for PAT TILLMAN.

I’m sorry sir, I don’t mean to seem cruel but none of those guys at the top give a second thought for your family, any more than they would for all the Iraqi children killed or maimed in this war. Their only concern is money.

Hallibuton KBR $600 million in miitary contracts while serving dirty food and water to your grandson.
$2.5 billion contract for managing the fuel distribution system in Iraq.
Cheney will receive deferred salary.  He is going to be super rich in 18 months time.

George Schulz’ Bechtel Gets $680 million Iraq Infrastructure.

Prince of Darkness Richard Perle gets $20 million bribe from Boeing to lobby for an $18 billion contract.

I believe there is no congressional oversight on these activities as Iraqi oil will pay for much of this.

There is grim lesson in this for all of us.  Just because the executive wrap themselves around a flag, doesn’t mean they have the people’s interests at heart.  Beware of False Patriots (and Profits).

When I first saw the photo of the Grandparents and the baby I thought that was very creepy…I was hoping to see Ms.Cheney and Ms.Poe for the fisrt family photo.I also feel sad for Ms.Poe her role has been diminished back to her first rank of cargo baggage,as she once was classified by the WH reps.

While it isn’t so astounding that the Cheney generations disagree about gay issues, the comparison with the Gingrich family comes to mind.  I have to wonder what Samuel will say in about 10 years and how he will feel about his mommies’ silence.

its like karma, what you preach against comes to your home. now if only someone would kill his grandson as an act of a aggessive brutal army he could cry like I did when my grandson was killed in Iraq by the US Army. That would be so sweet, so right and a lesson learned.

Will there be a world left for this child? Will the global warming be taken care of? Well he can thank his Grandfather if his world is so hot he won’t survive! Or the weather change brings storms so bad he has to live underground like his Grandfather after 9/11.

The big hypocrite has done it again.Running on a platform that excludes gays except of course when it is his daughter he is singing show tunes. Why his daughter did not go for the “cure” is beyond me.It worked wonders for Ted Haggard. When has Dick Cheney ever made a real stand for gay rights in his life. They pander to the religious right for votes push anti gay legislation and are against gay marriage but when it is their kids everybody’s sexual orientation is private.Does he mean in the closet? The people who support this administration would probably confiscate the child as living in an unnatural enviroment. How does he sleep at night?

As much as the media and gay-rights activists focus on the conflicts that Mary Cheney must have with her father and his Republican cronies, it must be much, much harder on Heather Poe.

Imagine falling in love with Mary when Mary’s father was an ex-Washington luminary who was simply raking in the big bucks at Haliburton.

Suddenly the old man is teamed up with a bunch of neo-con evangelicals who consider Heather and Mary the poster children of all that is wrong with the world.

Mary “has” to remain loyal to her parents. Poor Heather.

Human sexuality, in whatever flavors you choose, is obviously a very complex and often problematic sphere of human behavior.

Although our own society has its share of problems with sex, gender relations and similar issues, other societies and cultures in the world have even more challenges in this area.

Food for thought in:

“Make love, not jihad: PSYOP, OSINT efforts should tackle repression of romance”

Yes, 2 mommies, a witch for a grandma, and a murderous, gun-toting, alcoholic tool from the Dark Side for a grandpa!

All that notwithstanding, Congrats, Cheneys! Mission Accomplished! One more religio-fascist ideologue has been added to the Party. Surely Chairman Cheney Vader is pleased.

Wouldn’t fate be wonderful were she to evolve Samuel David into a far-left leaning liberal who, after Gramps’ pacemaker stopped, turned over the Bush-Cheney “tapes” to be publicly scrutinized in the National Archives? Maybe he’ll grow up to be the President who posthumously prosecutes his Grampa Shrek, the ogre, and Dumya the jackass, interning their wretched remains in the exercise yard in a maximum security federal prison.

Congratulations to the parents and best of luck to them and their new child. Perhaps by the time little Sammy is a teenager his society will have matured a little and he won’t have to deal with a pack of ignorant assholes poking fun at him and his mothers.

But I wouldn’t bet on it.

This is so ironic I think I’m going to choke.

Dick Cheney can thank those “looney” Liberals for trying to maintain a pluralistic society where his daughter can live in peace.

Does this mean Pat “Lear Jet” Robertson now hates Dick Cheney for undermining conservative family values?
