Israel Drawn Into Gaza ClashPosted on May 17, 2007After five days of fighting between rival Palestinian factions in the Gaza Strip, Israel has entered the fray, responding to rocket attacks on its soil with airstrikes in Gaza. The BBC reports that two Hamas officers were killed in the air attacks, and that at least 40 people have been killed since violence erupted last weekend.

One interesting thing about mainstream reporting on Israel-Palestine is that it rarely if ever makes clear to the reader that this is taking place in the context of almost 60 years of brutal occupation.
To offer an analogy, what would we think of reporting in the US during the 1700-1800s regarding slave revolts that never once mentioned the word slavery? They might report for instance that a group of Blacks (or Negroes as they were called) attacked the plantation owner’s home and set it afire and maybe killed or kidnapped some of the inhabitants. But without understanding the nature of slavery, one might place the guilt on the slaves. One might in fact call them terrorists!
I go to electronicintifada.com to get reliable reporting on Palestine.
