Republicans Turn on Each Other in Second DebatePosted on May 16, 2007
The first Republican debate was like a first date, with the presidential candidates behaving politely and saying things they could all agree on, like “Ronald Reagan and tax cuts are great, don’t you think?” But by the second debate, it’s clear these guys aren’t relationship material. Here are some highlights, including Rudy Giuliani attacking Ron Paul for making sense. Previous item: Meet the War Czar Next item: Manhunt Intensifies in Iraq Elsewhere: . Giulianis outburst was in a category all its own (not a good thing).
As for the other “attacks”, they were basically encouraged. The questions were asked to get them to talk about each other--in contrast to the 1st debate.
The good thing about the 1st debate was that the subjects covered were more diverse than the 2nd and gave a better overall picture.
With the 2nd debate, the questions covered less subjects, but the way they structured brought out things about the candidates that were absent in the 1st debate--such as McCains response to the question of torture and Mitt Romneys statement that he thought we should double Guantanomo.
Some articles said that was Mitts best line of the night. I think it was the worst line of his career.

I think it is good to have these debates. To me, they have been very enlightening in showing who are the morons and who have a fighting chance at setting America back on the right track following the Bush Travesty. Out of all of them, based on two debates, only Ron Paul has the necessary backbone to run for President. The others should just leave the stage now and quit their buffoonery.

I absolutely agree with Ron Paul. I think we as American’s expect everyone to “treat us right” and we don’t see how poorly (to say the least) that we treat others. Our policies world wide are hypocritical.... and my opinion in this regard doesn’t make me unpatriotic! More so because I want our government to walk our talk.

Ron Paul whilst not being as eloquent as the rest of the candidates said the most sensible things. People dont hate America because of its ideals or its people. People hate America because of its foreign policies which have caused so much pain over the world. they supported the brutal apartheid regime, they support the repressive regime of equatorial guinea (because of their oil) whilst chiding China for doing the same thing in Sudan, i could go on and on ever since the Second World War america has been making enemies for itelf by interfering in other countries by propping up repressive regimes, assassinations and tacit support for murderers all over the world. Ever since the first Europeans came to America the history has been steeped in the at times brutal and violent exploitation of other people or races. Ron Paul is right you cant do whatever you want around the world and not expect to face the repercussions. Its time the American people wake up and start questioning America’s relationship to other countries and how we treat ther countries

giuliani is absolutely disgusting. He’s nothing but a bully. A very stupid bully.
Ron Paul was outstanding as always.
And every poll I’ve seen shows him winning overwhelmingly! The American people are finally waking up. Now they need to demand a new, true 9/11 investigation and this country will be well on its way to healing itself by cutting out the cancer that is bush/cheney/rove.
Paul/Kucinich 2008.

Reyes is correct on all points. Guliani says he lived through the 9/11 attack as though he was in danger at any time.
Guliani was in just a little more danger than me and I live in the Midwest.
People who try to deny that “Blowback” is a legitimate reality are fools. Listen again to Reyes ask what would we do if China were to start building Housing for their troops in America or Mexico.

My vote is for Ron Paul. We are being attacked and hated by the majority of world because of our intrusive arrogant foreign policy. We support and continue to support tyrants and dictators all over the world, invade and threaten to invade nations who refuse to obey us and appoint ourselves as polceman of the world. Lets listen to Ron Paul and avoid uneccesary entanglements with other countries and learn to mind our own business.

Behind them stand an army of political consultants with blank checks, and marketing evaluators checking galvanic skin response to the sound byte tests they have cooked up. They must reshape the debate or lose terribly. Demagogy will backseat until the final stretch.

Let’s face it, there will always be some Republicans who believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that prosecuting or supporting war is a winning electoral strategy - a delusion clearly expressed by John McCain who says he doesn’t believe that the Republican defeats in the ‘06 elections had anything to do with war. These warmongers believe that most Americans think, as they do, that the U.S., as the world’s pre-eminent military power, should wield that power to maintain world wide domination. Deep in their souls, the feel that opposition to war - ANY war - is tantamount to treason.

I love it...there is blood in the water and the sharks attack everything. Republicans...why, they are as bad as Democrats; just wait...Obama and Clinton are headed for a showdown.
When it comes we’ll be looking at a wasteland of candidates.
The question is...does America have a clue what it really wants or does FEAR still rule?
Who will be “the one”?
God help us...we won’t help ourselves!

I thought the American people won. I can’t imagine anyone voting for any of these men. While Ron Paul clearly understands the danger of our empire building policy, when you listen carefully to his other positions a progressive can not support him.
So far its definately none of the above.
