U.S. and Iraqi forces are continuing their search for three missing American soldiers, despite threats from the Sunni insurgent coalition that claims to have taken them as hostages. Some 4,000 troops along with helicopters, jets and unmanned aerial vehicles are involved in the effort. The Pentagon said on Monday that it believed the soldiers had fallen into enemy hands.

AP via Yahoo:

U.S. and Iraqi troops—backed by dog teams—searched vehicles and pedestrians. Other teams peered into crawl spaces and probed for possible secret chambers in homes.

On Monday, the Islamic State of Iraq—an al-Qaida front group that has claimed to have captured the soldiers—warned the U.S. to halt its search by about 4,000 troops, and the Pentagon acknowledged for the first time that it believes the soldiers are in terrorist hands.

Last June, al-Qaida claimed responsibility for the deaths of two U.S. soldiers whose mutilated bodies were later found in the same area where a weekend ambush had occurred.

From whom comes the unevidenced assumption that they were kidnapped—a waord avoided—by al Qaeda?  Since when do we believe al Qaeda?

Since when do we believe Liar-in-Chief?

If insurgents are holding American soldiers captive, is it okay to subject them to “alternative methods of interrogation”, since George Bush has declared that to be legal?  And will torture be acceptable, since Alberto Gonzales considers the Geneva Conventions to be “quaint”?  And will killing those soldiers be “excessive force”, as the FBI describes the measures that resulted in “accidental” deaths at Guantanamo?  To the extent that any of these insurgents might be troubled by conscience, it certainly will be assuaged by George Bush’s acquiescene in the horrors of Abu Ghraib.

As the U.S. military plans drag on in Iraq there’re much more troops killed without an explanation.

When a draft dodger is the Commander-In-Chief military activities are huge farces and only young troops are jeopardized.

Why were these 8 left out on an out post with so little back up? Seems to me the Military should have known that this could happen and had a backup plan. This whole war has been a blunder from the start.

Watch for so-called connections between this group who has the soldiers, and Iran. The scoundrals in the Bush Administration will try and make that link in order to justify an attack on Iran. I would not be surprised if the soldiers have been kidnapped by CIA operatives in Muslim disguises.

Don’t put anything past the orcs.

Strange, sad, and futile how the US military and media respond “like crazy” to the kidnapping of three.  Mere deaths descend to mention in paragraph three or an inside page.  We give insurgents a weapon even more potent than an IED: kidnap a handful, and they tie down thousands of US forces in a goose chase, kicking in doors, searching households, humiliating the population, and agitating all against the Occupation.  The passion to “just do something” may appeal to the home front and make a good lead story, but fail to retrieve the detainees and set back US goals.  Placing US troops in multiple insecure mini-posts only exacerbates the risk of further captures.
