The Catholic Church in Brazil is hoping the pope’s visit will help reinvigorate the local church, which has lost millions of faithful in recent years to evangelical churches.

Brazilian Catholics thronged to see Pope Benedict XVI in Sao Paulo on Friday as he officially added native-born 18th-century Friar Antonio Galvao to the canon of saints.  While he was at it, the pope emphasized the importance of just saying no to drugs and premarital sex.

BBC:

During the Mass, the 80-year-old pontiff encouraged his listeners to follow the example of the new saint by helping the needy “in an age so full of hedonism.”

He lauded Friar Galvao as a model of rectitude and humility, and went on to criticise the elements of the media that ridiculed the sanctity of marriage and virginity before marriage.

You know, it is really sad to see this day when everyone just loves to bash righteousness. The Pope is taking a stand for purity, human dignity, love, and respect. What is wrong with virginity and saving yourself for one in marriage? Is there anything wrong with helping the poor and those who are in need? Is the Pope saying something wrong? I don’t think so. He is not saying that if you go and sleep with your man or woman before marriage there is no hope for you. He is just asking that we acnknowledge right form wrong and repent by trying to fulfill righteousness dispite how difficult it could be at times. Those who do not agree or just simply don’t beleive in God, well, that’s your problem. I am not going to sit here and say you have no right to your opinion, but I am also not going to say to those who do (beleive in God), that we should appoligize for our’s if they should offend someone because God’s judgment is just and overrules anyone and anything and those who give witness to God’s ways are right in doing so.

Sitting in his throne then making any comments is very easy and anybody could do more better than Roman Catholic king.

Rae,

Rather than post here, ace, why not join Billis at Stone Mountain (See Below). And if the Klan won’t take you in, there’s always the Communist Party. With them you might even be equipped with brass knuckles for those special re-education sessions for Catholics. And you just might get special mention in the Daily Worker or be named a hero of socialist labor. See, Rae, there’s a heaven even for bigots like you.

Billis,

I’ve got a suggestion for you, chief. Rather than submitting us another time to that tired, old Robert Shelton impression, why not just go out and actually buy that bedsheet and show up at the next Klavern gathering at Stone Mountain. You can give full vent to your Catholic hating and everyone will encourage you. There won’t be any Catholics there like me to put a label on your symptoms, you’ll be able to light up crosses, string up a “nigra” or two, and call the Pope anything you’d like. But just don’t try it here on this blog. You’ll be identified for the bigot that you are.

What does a guy who was in the Hitler youth and brags about not getting laid know about sex with a woman. The Catholic Church should stick to what it knows about, sex with alter boys.

Who in their right mind gives a rat(zinger)’s ass what the Pope believes or says? He’s no more and no less than the politically elected figurehead representing the greatest con game on the planet.

You gotta hand it to the Catholics. They were paying attention in psych class - they know EXACTLY how to find the “weak,” to induce in them a profound level of guilt, to reduce them to Borg-like drones, completely unaware of how they’ve been taught to behave like sheep, and to extract their obedience and dollars for the rest of their lives.

In return the sheep are “protected” from the imaginary wolves.

What I’d like to know is how do the priests keep from breaking out laughing when waving their smoke (& mirrors), handing out their wafers and spraying their holy (tap) water over the groveling masses?

Mar Del Zur,

You say:

“Just say no to religion.

You don’t need it.”

Considering the specific content of the topic under discussion, are we to assume that this suggested approach of yours to religion implies saying yes to drugs? You leave us with little else to credit you. grin
