Twelve American soldiers were killed in Iraq over the weekend, six and a civilian journalist in one attack alone. Meanwhile, bombings in Baghdad and Samarra on Sunday killed at least 44 Iraqis, including a police chief and 11 of his officers.

AP via SFGate:

A roadside explosion outside the Iraqi capital on Sunday killed six American soldiers and a civilian journalist, the military said, among 12 U.S. troop deaths reported on a day when two car bombs killed at least 44 Iraqis at a Baghdad market and a police headquarters.

A car bomb in the capital, where U.S.-led forces are in the midst of a crackdown on sectarian violence, killed at least 30 Iraqis. At the police headquarters in Samarra, a volatile city in the Sunni heartland 60 miles north of Baghdad, a car bomb and shooting attack killed 12 police—including the police chief.

American soldiers racing to the headquarters to help also came under attack by small arms fire and rocket-propelled grenades that left two soldiers wounded, the military said.

Has everyone blogging on this site called their representative in congress to urge them to support HR 333 to impeach Dick Cheney? That is the quickest way to stop this war. Impeach Cheney—end the war.

Part of the reasons why the occupation of Iraq goes on and on seems to be the complacency of the American public.

This seems to be based, in part, on the failure of the national news media to documentthe full scope of deaths of and horrible injuries to US troops and the heart-wrenching trauma to their families.

Many young American kids will now grow up without their father or mother, or a parent who is terribly injured for life.

The deaths of and injuries to hundreds of thousands of innocent Iraqis, including children, have also not been fully covered by US news media.

More on this in:

“Are the U.S. media and public ready to deal with the troops severely wounded in the Iraq war?”

Once more into the breach. We are a foreign army, killing civilians in their own country, we are a foreign army trying to occupy a country that even in the early 90s represented no serious, but an over-hyped threat (remember it was Republican Reagan/Bush officials who had Saddam thinking he had carte blanche in his own backyard), we are a foreign army trying to dictate another countries political structure (this may be admirable in theory, but as the engineers of said government we need, but do not have people who have basic understanding of Iraq and of course there is the artificiality of Iraq as a concept of nationhood). Let the moslems untangle the mess.

When it is discovered that there was no reason for invasion of Iraq, we should have excused ourselves and got out of the country and offered reparations once they had settled a government amongst themselves.

Enough of young soldiers hyping the war. They are young, they either had the mindset of us vs. them before signing on, or they had it distilled into them by military training. War requires that the leaders are honest and we have none that are honest in this matter, as for the young they have been taught “this is a ball game”, no it is murder, it is theft and not just of Iraq, but of our troops put in harms way by an administration made up of pretend military leaders.

The quickest way to stop this war is to impeach Dick Cheney.

He is still war profiteering with Halliburton (which now has moved its headquarters to Dubai to save on taxes and avoid the depression when the dollar collapses). Cheney is making millions off this war. The oil guys can’t wait to get those 30 year binding contracts signed to loot Iraq of its oil revenues. They have no motivation to end this war.

They are not normal human beings. They are sociopaths who do not care how many of our troops are dying for nothing. They are not envisioning all of the children who have dads and moms in Iraq that will be blown to pieces instead of coming home. Cheney is incapable of empathy. He is a sociopath and must be removed from office. Why this is not clear to everyone, I do not understand.

Call your congressman today. Ask him or her to support HR 333, Articles of Impeachment against Dick Cheney. Get this murderous man out of office. Stop the killing. Create a ground swell of support for Dennis Kucinich’s HR 333 in the House.

The only surge that is working is the one against our troops. The longer we continue this failed policy, the more troops will die for nothing.
