A growing number of experts and analysts now agree that George W. Bush’s war on terror has been nothing short of a disaster, and not just for the obvious reasons. For instance, one might question the wisdom of designating a Midwestern apple festival a potential terrorism target.

Reuters:

Unlike the muted response to attacks by Britain and Spain, experts say the U.S. has overreacted to the September 11 attacks that killed 3,000 people in New York, Washington and Pennsylvania in 2001.

Congress has spent nearly $271.5 billion on homeland security since September 11, with money often going to projects that have nothing to do with security but that are important to politicians and their constituents, according to a survey by the conservative American Enterprise Institute.

At the same time, the number of potential terrorism targets identified by Congress has exploded from 160 in 2003 to 80,000, allowing such unlikely sites as a Midwestern apple festival and a roadside theme park in Florida to bid for funds.

Your culture of fairy tales is sadly lacking.  What about “Snow White and the Seven Drawfs.”  What did her mean Step-Mother use as a weapon?  An Apple!
Poisoned apples, just imagine the country flooded with poisoned apples, the tiniest jar or even spoonful of applesauce transformed into a horrifying weapon of mass destruction.

There would be heart-breaking stories of family dogs elevated to hero status by eating an apple destined for the children and whose agonizing expiration spared at least this family.

There might be an upside, apple scanners capable of detecting the slightest trace of poison, the formation of an Apple Miltia, local or federal.
The fabrication of apple warning signs.  “Caution, Apples Ahead.”

The Global War Of Terror cannot possibly succeed unless those who prosecute it can manage to scare everyone witless; ergo, everything and everyone is a potential target; ergo any and all precautions are sanctioned; any and all liberties are expendable; any and all suspects are susceptible to disappearance into the Torture Gulag — all for your own security, mind you…classical Straussian elitism, derived from Schmidt and Nietzsche.

My God, who among this pathetic lot of pols will show the guts to take down these strangelove madmen before they destroy the very republic which allows them to thrive. Treason for the lot of them, nothing less!

That’s what we get when we allow a culture of fear and insecurity to reign supreme and enslave us through fear-mongering and deception by cunning and calculating misguided politicians! We reap what we sow, and it will never be any other way!

Actually, my take on this is that they hate us more everyday because they think we deserve better, and yet we have sheepishly settled for Bush and gang for almost seven long years, and one more year to go, which could be the straw that breaks the camel’s back! I almost started to hate myself as an American who could make no difference for seven long years, except for my tax-payer contributions that caused me to have the blood of Americans, Iraqis and Afghanis on my hands!

No surprise at all. Nobody embraces invasion forces as his/her lovers who only bring venereal diseases !
