House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Majority Whip James Clyburn are having a hell of a time convincing rebellious Democrats to support the new Iraq spending bill. Conservative “blue dogs” don’t like the readiness requirements and withdrawal timetable, while House progressives object to spending “another dollar or another dime to support this war.”
Washington Post:
One of the Democrats’ chief designated vote counters, Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.), is actively working against the Iraq war spending bill. The leadership’s senior chief deputy whip, Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.), spoke passionately against it on the House floor. And one of the whip organization’s regional representatives, Rep. Lynn Woolsey (D-Calif.), is implacably opposed.
The disarray in the House whipping operation ahead of tomorrow’s expected vote on the bill is putting a harsh spotlight on House Majority Whip James E. Clyburn (D-S.C.), who has the task of rounding up the 218 votes needed to pass the $124 billion measure, but who has not even kept his organization in line.
“There’s only one test, and that will be whether we get 218 on the board on Thursday,” said House Democratic Caucus Chairman Rahm Emanuel (D-Ill.), who predicted that Clyburn will come through with the votes.
But the failings of his organization are resurrecting fears that the courtly Southern gentleman is simply too nice for a job known for head-banging, punishment and retribution.

We are occupying a country where 80% of those polled most recently want us out and feel their lives were actually better off before the invasion. We’ve got an administration that has been lying to us from the very beginning on this war and just about everything else since they took office. We’ve killed Iraqi’s to the tune of between a minimum of over 60,000 to well over 650,000, depending on which study you use. Over 3100 americans have lost their lives and scores more injured, all to fight a war based on the George Bu$h administration’s lies. The reasons orginally was to root out his supposed WMD’s even though the weapons inspectors had verified their destruction over 10 years ago, then the reason given was the made up connection to Al Queda, then the reason became to bring “Freedom & Democracy “ to the people of Iraq, as if blowing up their country might sway them to our way of thinking? All lies, and when confronted with the evidence that they were lies, do we hold them accountable ? No, we let them make up another, and another lie, and still it continues. Similar to the federal attorney firing scandle going on now. When you continually lie, its hard to keep your lies straight and eventually you are discovered as the liar you are except when we are saddled with a gutless congress that refuses to hold these liars to account. This is supposed to be a democracy, the people’s goverment and we have become the embodiment of everything we fought against as a country whose reputation used to be one of supporting people’s rights thruout the globe. We are now viewed by a large percentage of the world as the most de-stabilizing force on the planet. Does this sound like the America we knew? None of these lies were ever the real motivation behind this administration’s plan for the region. We’ve built or are building four permanent bases in the country and our only reason from the very beginning was to secure the oil under the sands of Iraq. A plan made behind the locked doors of Cheney’s office with the representitives of western oil company exec.s ( incl. Ken Lay ), which Cheney refuses to make public ( I wonder why ) There are people being blown up in the streets of Baghdad every day, militias driving around with automatic weapons, snatching people to torture and kill. We’ve destroyed their infrastructure and very little if any rebuilding has taken place yet we’ve spent billions of our dollars to companies for that, the most highlited being Cheney’s former employer Halliburton, from which every year he himself has profitted handsomely from the stocks he still holds despite his lies that he has severed all ties with that company. We have a privatized ( mercenairy ) component that augments our military fighting in Iraq killing in our name called Blackwater yet they do not answer to our goverment directly even though its yours and mine tax dollars that pays them. This is all orchestrated by Cheney’s office, it was his & Rumsfeld’s plan to introduce these soldier for hire and security personel specifically because they would not be answerable directly to our congress. They could wage the neo-con’s little wars behind the scenes without any oversite from the peopple’s representitves at all. We are inside of Iran now, formenting unrest in the preclude to the neo-cons escalation plans for the area. They want this war to continue and grow as a justification for our military presense to become a permanent fixture in the oil rich middle east. Does this sound like the america we thought we had ? Isn’t it time to turn the dollar spiget off of Cheney’s war machine, send our kids back home, prosecute these treasonous criminals in charge in Wash DC and spend the people’s revenue on whats needed right here at home ? It is time to pressure your congressman to stop this madness NOW.

“Democrats who are moving ahead with anti-war legislation are using troops as leverage to win domestic political battles,” President Bush said Saturday. Democrats pledged to keep pushing until there is a change of course in Iraq.
Bush said some lawmakers see a chance “to micromanage our military commanders, force a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq and spend billions on domestic projects that have nothing to do with the war on terror.”
The above was taken from a recent news report I got off the internet. I’m going to repeat part of Bu$h$ statement to make a point.
“force a precipitous withdrawal from Iraq and spend billions on domestic projects that have nothing to do with the war on terror.”
If you take the scary word “precipitous” out of the quote the Democratic strategy makes perfect sense. Yes 70 percent of the American people want to take our Billions out of Iraq, a war that had nothing to do with “terrorists” and much to do with the financial health of Haliburton. Haliburton stock value has more than tripled since the start of bu$sh/Cheney war.
As to Micro-managment? Harry Truman fired the greatest General Officer we ever had, Douglas MacArthur, when he insisted on pushing deeper into North Korea. Harry believed in “Micro-managing self-serving Generals when the solution to a conflict by it’s nature must be settled politically.
Thanks to Bu$h, Cheney, Rumsfield, Powell, Rice, Tenet and many others like them, we are going to suffer the consequenses of our pathetic endeaver in Iraq regardless of when we leave, so lets do the smart thing. Save our resources and get the hell out now.
In the mean time the Democrats are still trying to make the war a political fence straddling strategy instead of bending to the will of the vast majority of us who want us to get out of Iraq NOW!!!

If Pelosi would do what she was elected to do, get us out of Iraq, and stop listening to GD AIPAC lobby we would be out of Iraq asap.
As long as both parties are scared s**tless of the AIPAC lobby we will continue to have a foreign policy that is neither in the best interests of Israel or the United States.
Nancy, get some guts or get the hell out of the kitchen. If you dont start listening to the people that put you in your job you will not have it long!

The Democrats aren’t divided - a lot of them just forgot what the hell they were elected to do. They won’t get a another chance.
