Papers Nix Coulter’s Column

Posted on Mar 9, 2007

A number of newspapers around the country have dropped Ann Coulter’s syndicated column following her now-notorious homophobic zinger at a conference of conservatives last week.  In addition to the three papers Editor & Publisher tallied Thursday, Media Matters on Friday named two more dailies that have had it with Coulter’s antics, and the website helpfully offers contact information for those that still carry her column.

UPDATE: Check out Friday’s San Francisco Chronicle report about further after-effects of Coulter’s comment here.

Media Matters:

Media Matters for America has learned that two additional newspapers, The Sanford Herald of North Carolina and the Daily Chronicle of DeKalb, Illinois, have dropped right-wing pundit Ann Coulter’s column following Coulter’s appearance at the Conservative Political Action Conference, where she referred to Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards (NC) as a “faggot.” On March 8, Media Matters published a list of newspapers that carried Coulter’s columns, as well as the email addresses of those papers’ editors.

Ann Coulter is just a venomous right-wing fascist. She spews hate and xenophobia because there is still a LARGE segment of the American populace that is receptive to it, otherwise it wouldn’t garner attention. In reality, the day needs to come when people of a fair mind start to take a stand and make “Andy” and all of her/his ilk accountable for their vicious diatribes and actions.

Maybe if we oust this fount of vitriol and slander, others of her ilk will follow. The American public can restore integrity to the media, but only if they insist on it.

She’ll be back.  If someone like Rush Limpbaugh can make a comeback so can the spawn of satan.

Only four newspapers out of 36 dropped her column? Hopefully the tally will get higher. What bothers me is the reaching for the bottom for people like Coulter. As someone given a forum for her opinion in the media, using insults should be cause for dismissal. It’s one thing to have freedom of speech, it’s another thing to abuse that freedom. Would it be OK for other columnists to call her a slut, bitch, lesbo or a whole host of ad hominem attacks? The answer is “no” and any that do should also be canceled from publication.

This should apply to on-air personalities as well. The dumbing down of news that now includes Hannity and others as part of a news organization when large portions of their time is hardly reporting news anymore. Insults should have no part in news or debate and those that do should be replaced by others who can control their speech.

Even Faux News had a hard time spinning her comments. Hannity was about the only one who came to her defense. He is almost as bad as her, but Ms. Coulter is in a classless by herself. I bet the Repubs don’t invite her to any more events.

Andy Coulter is just jealous that John Edwards is so much better looking than he is. Have you heard anyone in the Republican Party refute or condemn what he had to say?

You would think suggestions to kill world leaders, including American political figures, would have landed her in federal prison and not just the cancellation of her Nazi editorials in a few newspapers. But hey, it’s a start!

Unbelievable!  Newspapers are canceling Coulter’s column over a one-word homophobic slur?  Where have they been all this time as the ignorant harpie has been slathering every other segment of American society that doesn’t conform to her compassionless bigotry with torrents of ridicule and abuse?

Media Matters lists several papers that carry Coulter’s column along with contact information. I encourage everyone who is sick to death of Ann Coulter to send a message to these papers requesting that they discontinue carrying her column.

Someone actually pays/paid this anorexic lowlife for her views on anything? Don King has it right “Only in America”. Don’t worry Ann - there’s always FUX News - the safe house for right wing flat liners to run to.

The Bulimic Barbie doll obviously has an eating disorder.  The next time she “purges” she should demonstrate the Navy’s new “Puke Ray”.

I often wonder what goes on when one achieves 15 mins. or more of fame. Ann used to have interesting albeit slanted views. This most recent
occurrence makes one wonder if she is now feeling untouchable. She just finished with the Jersey Girls, nothing but redundancy in her Human Events columns. As a journalist she is entitled to free speech but that is not a right to calculated personal attack on Edwards and at least pejorative to many others, gay or not.Perhaps she has no ideas and resorts to the Hannity, neocon
“ ad hominem” attacks. She will soon realize that her sarcasm is not carte blanche to insult. She should know better.Mel Gibson, Kramer, what’s next? They are at least entertainers.Coulter is supposed to be a journalist. Language of the streets is simply not appropriate and should not be tolerated. What if anything is her spin or is she above that?

Ann’s voice is a raucous, strained voice, talking violently but incoherently. It is the voice of a vulgar, limited, illiterate woman, lashing herself to fierceness, shouting, threatening, name calling, to escape from perplexity and despair.

She seems perfectly simple and honest in her quality. And that is perhaps the secret of her career. She gives vent to the illiterate and racist American overstrains. She is the voice of those illiterate, racist Americans losing control.

I guess she needs to speak in language her readers can understand?

Ann Coulter resorts to such outrageous comments because she has nothing else to offer.

Only in the USA would someone become rich and famous because of the outrageous things they say.

What amazes me is how many people are fans of this trash!!!!!!!!

(D)ann the horse-faced boy is losing ground fast, and so are her screeds, journalistic integrity be damned, she was a full-throated cheerleader for
BushCo, and now that that ship’s in the shallows, she’s getting cast overboard with the rest of the ballast, there...wonder what she’s got to say about THAT! LOL
