Gingrich Had Affair During Lewinsky Scandal

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich at a 2003 public discussion.

Prospective presidential candidate Newt Gingrich has admitted to having an affair while cheerleading the assault on Bill Clinton during the Monica Lewinsky scandal. Hypocrisy is nothing new to Newt, who extolled family values after serving divorce papers on his wife while she lay dying of cancer. And people are worried about Hillary and Barack’s electability!

AP:

“The honest answer is yes,” Gingrich, a potential 2008 Republican presidential candidate, said in an interview with Focus on the Family founder James Dobson to be aired Friday, according to a transcript provided to The Associated Press. “There are times that I have fallen short of my own standards. There’s certainly times when I’ve fallen short of God’s standards.”

Gingrich argued in the interview, however, that he should not be viewed as a hypocrite for pursuing Clinton’s infidelity.

“The president of the United States got in trouble for committing a felony in front of a sitting federal judge,” the former Georgia congressman said of Clinton’s 1998 House impeachment on perjury and obstruction of justice charges. “I drew a line in my mind that said, ‘Even though I run the risk of being deeply embarrassed, and even though at a purely personal level I am not rendering judgment on another human being, as a leader of the government trying to uphold the rule of law, I have no choice except to move forward and say that you cannot accept ... perjury in your highest officials.”

lots of people as they grow and mature become conservative ??? is that cause they grow stupid ??? libs are influenced by their ignorant emotions and conservatives are influenced by the facts at hand !!!

you my friend are totally wrong !!! libs call conservative’s stupid as a way of not having to address the differences !! most differenecs they are incapable, emotionally from facing !!

What a CREEP!

“Here’s a summary of Gingrich’s family life: 1) Gingrich marries his high school teacher, Jackie, who was seven years his senior; 2) Jackie puts Gingrich through college and she works hard to get him elected to the House in 1978 (Gingrich won partly because his campaign claimed that his Democratic opponent would neglect her family if elected—at that time it was common knowledge that Gingrich was straying); 3) Shortly after being elected, Gingrich separated from his wife—announcing the separation in the hospital room where Jackie was recovering from cancer surgery (the divorce was final in 1981); Jackie Gingrich and her children had to depend on alms from her church because Gingrich didn’t pay any child support; 3) Six months after the divorce, Gingrich, then 38, married Marianne Ginther, 30; 4) “In May 1999, however, Gingrich [55] called Marianne [48] at her mother’s home. After wishing the 84-year-old matriarch happy birthday, he told Marianne that he wanted a divorce.” This was eight months after Marianne was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis; 5) In 2000, Gingrich, 57, married ex-congressional aide Callista Bisek, 34, with whom he was having a relationship while married to Marianne”

I don’t quite understand why everyone is hyperventilating. The rules are very simple, you can be forgiven for any multitude of sins as long as you are on the right side of the ideological fence, ie Replication and anti abortion, Democarat and pro choice. For the same reasons Hilary Clinton and Obama will never be accepted by the regligous right regardless of how often they attend the prayer breakfasts or go to church for the simple reason they are on the wrong side of the ideological fence.

And remember not to long ago the Dems were the party of corruption and ineptitude. The best thing that could happen would be divided government, it keeps everyone on their toes. Having said that it’s nice seeing the Dems do the role the founding father set out for congress, balance on executive power.

Why is this news now? It’s been known since 1999—the year he resigned from Congress—that Newt Gingrich was having an affair with an employee 23 years younger than him, Callista Bisek. He divorced his wife (the second one) and married his mistress. Heck, it’s even in Wikipedia! He cheated on both his first wife and his second, and No. 3 has to feel nervous every time he’s out of her sight.

Definitely our prime “family values” presidential candidate!

The real point of this outrage isn’t that people and sex frequently are very untidy and lead to embarressment, but that too many make it worse by draconian pronouncements of moral rectitude.

In fact, although Clinton wasn’t my favorite politician, he Administered the country as the Constitution defined it. I only voted for him once and voted for a 3rd party candidate the second time, even though I realized the attacks by the extreme right wing of a disgruntled Republican party were just that. Clinton failed in not just identifing his untidy needs as his personal business and refused the answer that gave the amunition to his enemies, who have proved themselves the enemies of America too.

Good leaders have often had untidy lives. Ataturk if I am to believe a biographical sketch I read once, was extremely disrepectful to his love interests and yet he did much to modernize Turkey and give Turkish women genuine respect under the law. Turkey was lucky to have had him for a leader. To the extent that Turkey is a functioning democracy it is thanks to Ataturk.

The point is as much as I enjoy the public spectical of the revelations of Republican candidates hypocrisy being publically acknowleged, using that as the only definition for opposition is some how disturbing.

Newt Gingrich is what he has always been - a supreme hypocrite.  He has also demonstrated repeatedly that he has not one whit of compassion for the less fortunate.  Does anybody remember that he was the one who said that destitute mothers on welfare should be taken off the dole and their children put in orphanages?  What am I saying?  That is precisely what makes him a hero to the right wing.
And as far as Clinton is concerned, it doesn’t seem to penetrate the thick skulls of Clinton haters to wonder why some Republican prosecutor didn’t step forward and charge him with perjury, even after he was out of office.  Is it because they loved Clinton?  Hardly!  It’s because lawyers understand what the “dittoheads”, whose meager education comes from Rush Limbaugh, do not - that what Clinton said in his deposition, however evasive, was NOT perjury.  Even if he lied under oath, which is not really provable, given the ambiguity of a “hummer” being “sex”, it was on a matter irrelevant to the case being investigated (Paula Jones); therefore it did not meet the legal definition of perjury.
Gingrich will always be acceptable to evangelical Christians like James Dobson because no matter what despicable things he does or says, he is always careful to put the magic word “God” in there somewhere.  Somebody should point out to them that even Hitler often invoked “God” and his supposed Catholic beliefs.

Mr. Gringrich and others who spout about their marital relationships before the media cross a line of marital privacy and sensitivity to one’s partners and former partners’s feelings that I find offensive. Mr. Gringrich is apparently so ego-driven he has no empathy for others. It is precisely such egomania among many political and corporate leaders that has caused our country to lose its moral compass.

History is rife with accounts of powerful nations which, at the height of their power, have set a course that has led to their eventual self-destruction.  When, in America did they start, the paroxysms of self-destruction that will inevitably lead to our downfall.

We put into the office of president a man who we knew to be a liar, a cheat, a draft-dodger. True to his character, he reigned accordingly. Our nation may survive him, but just to make sure that we self-destruct we are contemplating replacing him with an individual with his equally pernicious qualifications.

Were Newt nominated he might be up against a candidate whose only critisism, so far, is his “inexperience.” Have we finally convinced ourselves that it is best to have a seasoned criminal as our crime boss rather than an inexperienced newcomer to the world of crime?

If nothing else, should we elect a liar, cheat and draft-dodger we will ensure our place in the history books of powerful nations that have self-destructed.

Please tell me when Bill Clinton committed perjury.  I know when he lied under oath, but I don’t when he committed perjury.

If you don’t know when lying under oath isn’t perjury (and when it is) then you have NO business moralizing about something you don’t know JACK about!

Besides, Newt was boffing everything he could get his .... in, while he was pursuing Clinton for doing the same damn thing--BEFORE CLINTON LIED IN THE DEPOSITION!!!

It just amazes me how you neo-cons simply do not recognize hypocracy when it’s your (creepy) guys who are the hypocrits.

I also think you should study basic third grade arithmetic.  See, Paula Jones was born in Sept 1966, and the alleged incident with Bill Clinton took place in May 1991.  That would make her 24 years old, not 19.

So please explain to me how she was a teenager at age 24 when Clinton propositioned her, since you accuse him of chasing teens.  Or is this yet another example of “swift-boating”? Keep repeating a lie often enough until it “becomes” the “truth”?

Actually, the Gingrich who stole Congress with his Contract On America, I believe informed his wife that he was filing for divorce, shortly after she came out of surgery, and on a cell phone...as in, not in person. A real class-act this one. Can you write PIECE OF SHIT here? Ok, I will!

The bald-faced hypocricy is what’s so galling, along with, of course, the sheer sociopathic amorality of guys like The Gingrich. From Rush and his three marriages and his multi-faceted drug addiction, to the Czar of all Values and Morality, William Bennett and his “let it ride” gambling addiction (which put the baby’s shoes on hold for awhile...at several million dollars lost), the beat just goes on and on. You just have to wonder how these miscreants can show their faces in public? Of course, if one is a sociopath, there’s no shame in anything they do, so not a problem.

This country is swirling down the toilet, and guys like this creep are telling us to hang ten. The very fact that they can get on morning news programs like “Meat: The Press”, says so much about the so called “liberal” media. Week after week after week they bring the same gang of liars up to shovel their horse manure. I can’t beleve anyone is even listening to this retarded POS. And yet, there he is, moralizing on how he did bad, and failed to meet the S&P;of the almighty...what a load.

America...WHERE IS YOUR BRAIN???? I know where Gingrich’s is, up his ass, but what about America as a whole (or is that hole?)? God this is depressing.

As a hopeful Democrat, I had been hoping he would be the champion of the Republican cause in 2008, and I’m not giving up yet. The distinction he draws between Clinton’s perjury and Newt’s forthright admission of his affair is striking, but what about his 9 years of silence on this matter? Did no one ask him about his own sexual misconduct? Did he deny any until now?  Would someone ask him?

I wish I could say that there weren’t any female sleazebags, but that simply hasn’t been my experience. Both sexes have wonderful examples of just how low human nature can go.

Ann Coulter comes immediately to mind, and I’m sure she has a whole parade of eager little neo-cons banging the daylights out of her.

I just wonder why psychopaths or those with a complete moral vacuum where their consciences would normally be of either gender are even listened to, much less anything else. The only answer I can think of is that they service each other.

Newt told Dobson that “There’s certainly times when I’ve fallen short of God’s standards.” Yes, if one is having an affair while their wife is on their death bed, it could be said with certainty that such a person has fallen very short of God’s standards; but if we did not view Newt’s hypocrisy in religious terms, he has still demonstrated a total lack of basic human decency—-satisfying his selfish needs for sexual comfort, while his spouse was being treated for cancer shows just what a weak, immoral creep he is.

I’ll say this for Jimmy The Weasel: He followed up his question to Gingrich about the affair by pointing out that Gingrich’s attempt to answer it in terms of Clinton just wasn’t enough. He insisted that the answer to the question be limited to Gingrich’s own affair. What wasn’t clear was whether Jimmy was prepared to accept Gingrich’s description of his “repentance” although he seemed almost to coach Gingrich on this aspect of their dialogue, something about an earlier conversation they’d had in Washington about his philandring in which Gingrich had seemed “pained” to Dobson.

Whatever the facts, the conversation cannot have had a positive impact on Gingrich’s presidential ambitions. Thoughtful and serious Evangelicals would have to be repelled by the facile nature of most of Gingrich’s replies, their well established penchant for rationalizing the worst of Republican excesses nothwithstanding.

However, there is some good, even years after, to learn more about the trash of trash-politicians like Gingrich. This might teach us not to trust the false rhetoric and hypocrisy spewed out by politicians desperate to hold public office. Another lesson is that America needs at least 3 more major parties; so that we are liberated from the tyranny of the two-party system, and so that we would not have to be forced to choose between the lesser of two evils.

the attack on Bill Clinton by the right and the impeachment was about sexual harassment at first with Paula Jones who was a 19 yr old receptionist for the State of Arkansaw and Bill dropped his pant, exposed himself to her and told her to kiss it!! then under oath he lied about it and his dalliance with Lewinsky so the house was impeaching him for “lying under oath” (committing perjury) not for having an affair !!!

why cant you guys on the left ever realize the impeachment was about lying under oath not about sex !!!

when Clarance Thomas told his sec. so lets not talk about hypocrisy for the left and the Dem’s are the biggest hypocrites of them all !!!  if consenting adults have an affair (Bill or Gingrich !!!) its not the same thing as lying under oath

Is power and money THAT seductive? To me, getting it on with anyone so repulsive would feel like rape, so I can’t understand why some women go for it.

Gingrich.  Republicans think he’s an intellectual for his maundering conservative prevarication.  How many other lines do you have drawn in your mind, Newt?  Sing us another song about your standards.

Mr. Gingrich was one of the main supporters of the “Defense of Marriage” Act proposed in Congress.  Who will defend the blessed institution of marriage against the likes of Mr. Gingrich?  Clearly, gay men and women are not the threat to the institution, it is the hypocritical, filandering, old, white homophobes in Washington that are the biggest threats to the institution of marriage.  It is infidelity that should be illegal...not Gay Marriage.

The U.S. leaders are in the forefront of leaders who lead by personal example and with true spirit of self sacrifice. Hurray for Gingrich! Just one more lying politician, no more, no less. One more politicians willing to send troops to their death while he talks, and talks, and talks his way to become (perhaps) the next leader of the United States of America.

Another Republican worm squirming out from under hypocrisy and twisted values invoking God one more time.  These people are disgusting!
When, oh when, will we take off the blinders and see these scum bags for what they are?

Newt Gingrich is a near perfect caricature of the callousness, greed, arrogance, cruelty, malignancy, and astonishing gall that have made the modern Republican party synonymous with all that is vile.

The nationwide snorting you hear is the reaction to this latest revelation by the “values voters”.  The GOP has an abundance of tearful apology; a great fund of closeted, two-faced oportunism--see also Corporal Lopez, Jeff Gannon, see also the several preachers of the recent months caught with their pants down...One wag has referred to this unhappy smokescreen as Porn Again Christianity.

This “Family Values” man also asked his first wife for a divorce while she was dying of cancer. He also has no military service and he is a chicken hawk on Iraq.

If this is the one he’s admitting to...then you KNOW he was messing around while he was pushing the Paula Jones suit--LONG before Clinton lied about Monica Lewinsky.  When he directed Ken Starr to use his Whitewater investigative resources to help Paula Jones, he knew NOTHING about Monica--and the odds are he was doing the SAME DAMN THING he was going after Clinton for.

Newt Gingrich is showing himself to be nothing more than a power-hungry hypocrit. An immoral scumbag who will tell ANY lie for power.

It was during the republican control of the House and Congress that such callous treatment was brought against Clinton.

A greedy acquisitiveness was part of the make-up of every energetic pursuer of “justice.” They were as incurably voracious as dogs. Their loyalties were at best gang loyalties; they were nonetheless greedy because they did at times hunt in packs. But they have no fundamental instinctive hostility towards having sex. Whether it’s with their life partner, or someone who’s simply a willing participant.  And, in the case with most republicans, through the power of their positions, they force themselves upon an unwilling participant.

Now that the pack has begun to break apart and the new House and Congress have begun thwarting these established habits of behaviors, that we find ‘ol Newt is only able to muster a snarl and his tail is slowly taking a turn in the opposite direction. Once the tail is securely tucked away, his actions will be as instinctive as other dogs and Newt will disappear leaving only a cloud dust in his wake.

Five years from now, as you are sleeping comfortably through a summer evening with your windows opened, you may encounter a strange noise in your backyard. Something has just turned over the trashcan and is scrounging through your garbage. You quickly jump to your feet without hesitation, as the thought of cleaning up this mess races through your head. Once you approach the window to peer out into the back yard, you immediately recognize the mangy grey haired dog and without hesitation the old steel toe garden boots are hurled out the window.

“What was it, honey?” Newt’s in the trash again!
