Despite ramping up its verbal attacks on Iran and Syria, the U.S. will participate in a conference in Iraq next month that will include the two regional powers. A State Department spokesman said he would not “exclude any particular interaction” with the diplomatic foes.

US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said: “We hope that all governments seize this opportunity to improve their relations with Iraq and to work for peace and stability in the region.”

Asked about face-to-face meetings with other delegates, State Department spokesman Sean McCormack would not “exclude any particular interaction”.

“I’m sure that there are going to be different kinds of discussions, meaning different groupings,” he said.

The five permanent UN Security Council members and the Arab League are to be invited to the meeting.

We have so abandoned diplomacy over the past 6 years that no one knows what may come of this meeting, but our success in North Korea suggests that the art of diplomacy should not be given short shrift

For years, you (socialists & anti-American types) have begged us to just ‘talk’ with the adversaries in the ME, and today, we announce that we will try it.

I hope you are right, but I don’t expect so.  Either way, the right response it from Mac KcKinney in comment 55799.  The others make fools of themselves by making maligning racist and sexist comments about the most powerful Black official in the world.

Such phonies.

Maybe they can have Condi serve some useful purpose at the conference by serving drinks. Surely no one takes this Bu$hbot seriously.

Let’s encourage this bigtime. Communications and diplomacy are actually contagious, even if the parties are not initially serious. The White House might actually do something positive despite itself.

Only such meeting could resolve Iraq problem but don’t send “blow job” expert Rice. She will surely destroy all results. Blow job only for blow job and not for diplomatic mission !
