Cartoon Ads Spook Boston

The Cartoon Network has apologized for causing the biggest security scare in Boston since 9/11.

City police thought several battery-powered advertisements placed on behalf of the cable channel might be bombs, a misunderstanding that crippled Boston’s infrastructure after authorities placed the city on high alert.

Reuters:

Apologizing for Boston’s biggest security alert since the September 11 attacks more than five years ago, Turner Broadcasting said it had placed electronic devices at bridges and other spots to promote an animated cartoon.

Police mistook the small, battery-powered electronic billboards as possible improvised bombs.

The discovery of the first one on a bridge led police to stop morning rush-hour traffic on an interstate highway just north of Boston, halt a busy train line, cordon off the area and deploy a bomb squad, which blew it up.

Typical, in a police state fear equals control. A few weeks ago pigeons were dying in Austin, TX, on the same day there was a smell in the Manhattan subway. Oh no! Has al Qaeda struck? This is simply nonsense! Stop being paranoid! There is no “Terrorists” except for those that want you to buy this garbage. Take Cairo, Mi for example, 3 men with cell phones, and photos of the Big Mac bridge, it’s an all out alert on FOX, it’s all over the Palestinians are about to attack. Their story checked out they were just capitalist trying to make some money. They were from Palestine, TX and not even Muslim, they were Chaldean (Christian)but this is what happens when our owners want to control us. End the war on terror stop being afraid.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
EEHHHH!
...ER...AH....WHA?

This country has gone to the dogs…

This is soooo fricken sad to see the level of reactionism we as a group have reached.

We are soooo ripe for bullshit to occur....

I can see one rape of reality on the horizen…
Can someone say martial law?

I mean really, the way our hired representitive in the White House has trashed sane behavior and insulted our intelligence its quite obivous that he is mental enough and empowered enough to do something ignorant like that.

The hired help has taken over.

If we dont grab the controls now...we deserve what we get.

Why are we not impeaching a lying president?
Why are we not bringing home our young from an illigal occupation / war?
Why are we allowing the plundering of the Constitution and the Bill of Rights?
Why are we not planning ahead on the big issues of alternative power?
Why are we still selling our country’s strength and future for a stinking profit?

If America is even still considered “the bread basket of the world”...then we are PISSING in it.

It is going to be quite interesting to see the outcome of this comedy of errors.

Here is a link to BBC where they state the two guys who placed these signs were arrested and may get up to 5yrs in jail.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6319211.stm

How something so ‘simple’ could go so bad.  Before 911 these guys would have gotten an award for such a stunt.

This is ridiculous. The news stories I’ve read seem to lead me toward the conclusion that these guys did something wrong, but then I see the photos and learn that these things had been up for weeks, and I wonder why the story isn’t “Boston Authorities Overreact”

This is what we get with a populous that is self-educated through TV shows like Law and Order, CSI and 24 - all “planted bombs” are placed in conspicuous places and have flashing lights!

Why the hell should the Cartoon Network apologize for Americans’ choosing to live in fear and paranoia? I refuse to participate in this hysteria that people try to rationalize as being necessary for “security”. If you want to stay afraid and hide under your bed and call the police when you see a blinky light flipping you off, go right ahead. I’ll be the one pointing and laughing at you.

It’s just plain sad that basically a Lite Brite can put the country on terror alert.

We must look like the biggest wimps to every other country in the world when junk like this happens.

Saddest of all- evidently these things had been out for over a week before anyone paid them any notice.

well, I guess the terrorists win. paralyze a city by advertisement. i can see it now, headlines read “Boston Paralyzed by Cartoon Channel” Whoa boy. i tell you what: the way things sre going, right now it’s TERRORISTS 12 AMERICA 1 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Man there is some fertile ground for Twilight Zone episodes. Ive contended that the times we live in are so bad anyone can call anyone a terrorist and the FBI would be at your house tomorrow. Joe is back.

Idiots...that it took this long for the Bostonians and working public to “not” pay attention to and fro work, is dumb-founding at best.  Obviously, someone (a crew) had to place these boxes on the side of the road and make sure that worked.  Another point of complacency in our time “alert\” in this country.
