A majority of Americans believe 2007 will bring a terrorist attack on the U.S., a major natural disaster and an increase in global warming, according to a new AP poll. Less than a third believe the U.S. will withdraw from Iraq, while 25 percent expect the second coming of Jesus.

AP:

Seventy percent of Americans predict another major natural disaster within the United States and an equal percentage expect worsening global warming. Fewer than one-third of people, or 29 percent, think it is likely that the U.S. will withdraw its troops from Iraq.

Among other predictions for the U.S. in 2007:

—Slightly more than one-third, or 35 percent, of Americans predict the military draft will be reinstated.

—One in four, 25 percent, anticipates the second coming of Jesus Christ.

I love how they write that 1 in 4 Americans is the same as 25%..... Just incase people didn’t already view Americans as being ignorant.

“And after that it’s just a hop, skip and jump before guess who is impeached, whereupon off he goes to the International Court of Criminal Justice for his trial there on the charge of crimes against humanity.  And after that?  Empire collapses.  And then?  It’ll be up to us.”

Yours truly,
I think we’ve a better chance of the “Rapture”  occurring, Bush will never get impeached; he’ll retire quite comfortably at the Crawford Ranch.

This is a serious matter:

At the outbreak of any WMD incident anywhere in the world, don’t look to the cave, the laptop, bin Laden; don’t look to the Axis of Evil. Look to Cheney and Cheney’s handlers.

I love this….you actually have to tell me that 1 in 4 is 25%!  What a revelation!  A Nobel prize winning discovery for sure!

Crimminy!  grin

How to turn those predictions upside-down?  We see to it that Congress cuts off all funding for the Iraq war, that’s how, because once the troops are home (and the Iraqis settle things by themselves (with reparations from the USA, of course), more and more of us are going to be asking “What was it that over three thousand of our best and brightest died for?” And after that it’s just a hop, skip and jump before guess who is impeached, whereupon off he goes to the International Court of Criminal Justice for his trial there on the charge of crimes against humanity.  And after that?  Empire collapses.  And then?  It’ll be up to us.

Isn’t it interesting, when I was a child people thought the second coming was eminent. Really, if you were Jesus, would you come back to this mess? Sometimes a burning bush is just spontaneous combustion.

Don’t be worried too much ! We still have King George on his throne and everything will be ok.
He and his dynasty will drive all misfortune out of our beautiful land.

Our King does have magic hands and he’ll be able to change white to black and vise versa.

I welcome the second coming of Jesus Christ. I am totally for Rapture. I don’t believe it will really happen, of course. It’s more like a fantasy where the believers in Christ are whisked away to some fanatical paradise in space somewhere and those of us with some intelligence and common sense are finally able to live our lives without having to put up with their crap.

Wait a minute, aren’t those the same sheep who believe George Bush is a Messiah?

Do Polls sincerely add up? Does War actually produce a winner? Do Beliefs genuinely evidence the supernatural? Or is the opposite true? Reality seems so difficult these days, it will never be held popular. Still, whatever the beliefs or the polls, may Reality on Earth harbor more amity and less amityville horror in oh-seven.

One in four Americans expects Jesus to return in 2007 (and presumably solve all his or her problems)? No wonder we atheists often get that alarmed look about us: We realize how many of their religious neighbors probably need guardians to make rational decisions for them.

At the very least, this belief probably contributes to the high rate of future-discounting we’ve seen in America lately. Why get out out debt, save money, plan for the future etc. if Jesus could return at any moment now?

I have only one sure prediction - as each year of the Bu$h regime has gotten progressively worse, 2007 will be no exception.

Terrorist attacks, natural disasters, global warming, no end to the Iraq War; now, does anyone have any bad news?
