According to the Associated Press, 108 American troops died in December—the bloodiest month for U.S. forces in 2006.

AP:

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP)—Three more Marines and a soldier were killed in battle in Iraq, the military said Friday, making December the year’s deadliest month for U.S. troops with the toll reaching 108.

The Marines, all assigned to Regimental Combat Team 5, died Thursday of wounds from fighting in western Anbar province, the U.S. military said. The soldier was killed in Karmah Thursday by small arms fire, the military said. Separately, the family of another soldier said he died Wednesday in Texas of injuries suffered in Iraq.

Their deaths pushed the toll past the 105 U.S. service members killed in October. At least 2,997 members of the U.S. military have been killed since the Iraq war began in March 2003, according to an AP count. That count includes two soldiers the military has classified as Iraq casualties, but the AP has not confirmed as Iraq-related deaths.

Bush doesn’t really care how many Americans die in Iraq. For him, success his staying in Iraq for however long it takes to “win the war” on terror. He’s a simple minded, arrogant and obstinate man, all three characteristics make for an extremely dangerous president. Its sad that the Democrats are unable to challenge Bush in any significant way. They could if they wanted to but let’s face it. Democrats are implicit in this disastrous “war on terror” and gave the noose to this country to hang itself. The United States is dying a slow, painful, agonizing death; something far worse than what Saddam experienced in his final moments. The future for this grand experiment in democracy is dim. More Americans GIs killed, the dominance of the military industrial complex, and the sheer arrogance and comtemptuoussness of our politicians towards cultures they show zero interest in understanding continues unabated. I don’t understand how any one can be optimistic about the fate of the United States or the Middle East. George W. Bush should be tried, along with Cheney, Rice and Rummy, in the International Court, and hopefully be found guilty of crimes against humanity. They are murderers and have made a joke of so-called “international law.” Ford forgave a criminal and is celebrated all these years later. Does anyone wonder why its impossible to think of the United States as anything less than a country dominated by right-wing thinking? Yes, we have some token opposition by a few Democrats but no serious opposition in this country. I don’t know what it will take for it to ever change.

So sad.  We as a nation need to stop believing Republicans and their war mongering ways.
