A satellite image of an Iranian nuclear facility.

Analysts are abuzz over a potential U.S. airstrike on Iran’s nuclear facilities.  Although the certainty of such an attack has grown hazier with a new Congress and a new defense secretary, a number of Bush loyalists have already indicated their desire to deal militarily with Iran’s nuclear program.

AFP via Common Dreams:

With the resignation of Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, hard-liners in the government have lost one of their leading advocates, and his replacement, former Central Intelligence Agency chief Robert Gates, has in the past favored direct talks with Iran, said one expert.

“But they remain within the administration at the highest level, the office of the vice president, the National Security Council staff, perhaps the president himself,” said Joseph Cirincione, policy analyst at the Center for American Progress.

He also accused neoconservative circles of promoting the military option against Tehran.

In a Sunday op-ed piece in the Los Angeles Times, Joshua Muravchik, resident scholar at the neoconservative American Enterprise Institute, called for getting tough with Iran.

“We must bomb Iran,” he said. “The path of diplomacy and sanctions has led nowhere. ... Our options therefore are narrowed to two: We can prepare to live with a nuclear-armed Iran, or we can use force to prevent it.”

Israel has also been pushing Washington to get tough on Iran.

Israeli Deputy Defense Minister Ephraim Sneh did not rule out preventive military action to stop Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons in a recent interview with the English-language Jerusalem Post.

RE: • Comment #39656 by Gonnuts  on  11/25  at  7:08 am - “Are the people advocating bombing Iran completely mad?”
A: YES!

RE: “It’s time for civil disobedience. It’s time we took our country back.”
A: Indeed, but when you go to the street, call for 911Turth; nothing else will bring these madmen down. Put them in the doc, show them the noose and get them to start flipping on their handlers.

RE:  • Comment #39766 by Sleeper  on  11/26  at  7:30 am - “We need to protect...our air and shipping ports.”
A: “...we have met the enemy...” If there is a WMD incident anywhere in the world, don’t look to the cave, the laptop, bin Laden; don’t look to the Axis of Evil. Look to Cheney and Cheney’s handlers. Look to the American Enterprise Institute and follow their corporate money trail back to the real 911 criminals and their operatives in the shadows. Remember the Maine. Remember the Liberty. Remember: “Angel is Next.”

We need to stop the madness and get out of Iraq.  Let Israel do her own dirty work.  We would do well to focus on energy independence through alternative sources.  We need to protect our markets and our air and shipping ports.  Lets put Americans to work protecting America and let the rest of the world fight their own battles.

Someone should tell old Joshua Muravchik and the other chicken hawks and war sissys at the AIE, who advocate sending other people’s children to die in their wars, that Iran will not be a cake walk or a beer run, or a hop-skip-and jump.

Russia has already begun deliveries of the Tor-M1 air defence rocket system to Iran, which are already being deployed around Iran’s nuclear sites, including the still incomplete, Russian-built atomic power station at Bushehr.  These rockets can be fired against airplanes, helicopters and other airborne targets, and into Iraq at our troops.

It is telling that Joshua Muravchik, Lynn Cheney, Newt Gingrich, John Yoo, Irving Kristol and Richard Perle (signatories of the PNAC) are are all hiding out at the AIE dreaming up ways to kill.  Like father (and mother), they never developed the intestinal fortitude to fight the wars they create.

Oh, great.

We already half destroyed ourselves invading and occupying Iraq, which was at least 50% for Israel’s benefit.

Now let’s just completely destroy ourselves by starting a new war against Iran, which would be 100% for Israel’s benefit.

There’s one other option besides either living with a nuclear armed Iraq or using force to prevent such, and that’s our ending the Iraq war by seeing to it that Congress passes the Kucinich bill that cuts off all funding for the Iraq war.

So that there be no war no more, nowhere, never, not even one.

If either the U.S or Israel bombs Iran we may well start the beginning of WWIII. Arab countries will unite and will unleash bloodshed throughtout the world like we’ve seen before. Unfortunitly we have a dangerous and maniac President and Vice-President who believes we could win such a confrontation.
They fail to take into consideration any repercussions from Russia and China,or the effect on the world economy. Nuculesr technology has been out there for some time. We have to accept we can no longer determine who has the Big Guns anymore. However, we can let countries know they will fail to exist if they attempt to use nuclear weapons. That stratgegy worked will during the cold was with the USSR. We could banrupt this country as the USSR did in Afganistan by continually fighting wars we can’t afford or refuse to pay for!

Can anyone see that behide all this U.S madness about Iran is the finger prints of Israel all
over it. It was intersting to note that before Mr. Bush went into Iraq one heared very little from Israel’s intelligence concerning WMD. Yes, what better way to deal with your enemies then to send the stupid Americans.

Are the people advocating bombing Iran completely mad? Would they be willing to put themselves or their children on the front lines? After two failed wars what makes anyone think that attacking a country that is stronger and bigger than both Afghanistan and Iraq that we would do anything but accelerate this countries decent?

It’s time for civil disobedience. It’s time we took our country back.
