Hersh: CIA Has No Firm Evidence of Iran Nuke Drive

The CIA has found no hard evidence of a secret drive by Iran to develop nuclear weapons, The New Yorker’s Sy Hersh reports.

  • Also, Hersh reports that Cheney has vowed to circumvent Congress and pursue military options against Tehran.

  • AP:

A classified draft CIA assessment has found no firm evidence of a secret drive by Iran to develop nuclear weapons, as alleged by the White House, a top US investigative reporter has said.

Seymour Hersh, writing in an article for the November 27 issue of the magazine The New Yorker released in advance, reported on whether the administration of Republican President George W. Bush was more, or less, inclined to attack Iran after Democrats won control of Congress last week.

A month before the November 7 legislative elections, Hersh wrote, Vice President Dick Cheney attended a national-security discussion that touched on the impact of Democratic victory in both chambers on Iran policy.

“If the Democrats won on November 7th, the vice president said, that victory would not stop the administration from pursuing a military option with Iran,” Hersh wrote, citing a source familiar with the discussion.

Cheney said the White House would circumvent any legislative restrictions “and thus stop Congress from getting in its way,” he said.

They’re not called Strange Loves for nothing. Witness the flood of limited hangouts surging through the corporate media — a torrent on the surface of the struggle within the oligarchy over the War of Civilizations…to leave the Gulf as just a DU-contaminated zone or a red-hot radioactive quadrant of the globe. The only half-mad realize that’s not at all good for business — time to put the Strange Loves back in their think tanks. Indeed, lock down the hatches and send them to the bottom.

No big deal ! Just create one another Nigergate so we can invade Iran without hesitation. But don’t forget to call Tony “Bush’s poodle” Blair, our loyal subject !

Nope, I can still see old Slim riding that bucking-bronco/bomb.  Admittedly Texas George would have been closer to Slim, but at the moment the subject is The Sneer.

Cheney caused the Iraq war more than anyone else!
Iran could be next. It’s not a surprise that he would circumvent Congress.

Why is this criminal still in office?  He says that his co-president will sign an executive order to bomb Iran and begin another war.  After all, George W. Bush stated to Sy Hersch when Hersch was originally commissioned to write Bush II’s biography, “Great Presidents Win Wars!”.  In GWB’s demented mind, that’s the only way for him to be a great president and he’ll just keep on starting them until he can finally win one.  Yeah, right! Notice that this intended enemy is also rich in oil.  That way “Unka Dicky” can still rake in his fortune from his Hallerburton’s retirement.

Felicity—I guess you missed Slim Pickens’ performance in Dr. Strangelove.  However, I can envision Cheney in a dark suit going on a one-way ride.

I suggest we high-jack Mr. Cheney, put him and a bomb in a B52, fly them over an Irani desert where we’ll gladly help him drop the bomb on the condition that he ride it down.

And of course, with Congress “circumvented” Mr. Cheney must purchase the B52, the fuel, the bomb and pop for the crew’s combat pay.

    (It’d make a GREAT movie.)
