New York Times:
The guidelines welcome gay people, but they also affirm church teachings that “homosexual inclinations” are inherently disordered. While having such inclinations is not sinful, gay sexual activity is, according to the core teachings. The guidelines, called “Ministry to Persons with a Homosexual Inclination,” passed by a vote of 194 to 37. They also speak out against same-sex marriage and adoptions by gay men and lesbians.
DignityUSA, an advocacy group for gay Catholics, said the new guidelines would further alienate gay people from the church. Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli of Paterson, N.J., chairman of the doctrine committee, which developed the guidelines, acknowledged Monday that the committee did not consult with gay men and lesbians on the document.
“It’s really disappointing,” Sam Sinnett, president of DignityUSA, said of the new guidelines. “At some point, the bishops have to realize that they speak in willful ignorance about what homosexuality is and about sexuality in general. They have to decide if they are moral teachers or simply employees of the Vatican.”
The bishops also adopted “Married Love and the Gift of Life,” which is meant to explain church teachings about contraception for engaged and young married couples.
The document, approved by a vote of 220 to 11, asserts that artificial contraception introduces a “false note” into a marriage and has led to a decline in respect for life in society. Catholics use birth control to the same extent as other Americans; only 4 percent, according to the document, use natural family planning, the type of birth control backed by the church.

To Kevin,
Report thisI agree with you 100% on that issue. It’s nice to see that there is other people in this world that actually have the wisdom and courage to stand up for what is right. But, unfortunatly, there is alot more bad people in this world than good! There is always going to be people out there who are going to attack the truth about certain issues because it is much harder to bare the truth for some people. I would also like to add how sad and dissapointing it is to see a great amount of Christians out there who have never even read a bible or even know what Christianity is all about, yet they shun catholisism and our pius apostles when they stand up for what is right. Sad, sad, sad.
In my opinion, you shouldn’t even have one if you havn’t read the gospals to begin with!

Talk about sheep! Know what you’re talking about, know who wants you to think what, do your own fact checking, and don’t ignore 800-lb gorilla sitting in the room beside you, even if you DO love how it smells and it always sings your favourite songs.
“Bigotry is the inability to formulate a rational premise” - G. K. Chesterton
Can you formulate the rational premise that there is an order or more magnitude of unchecked sexual abuse within the non-priest male population outside whatever criminals have been or shall be caught inside the Catholic Church?
Get a slide rule.
40,500 men can’t possibly do more sexual abuse than JUST THE OFFENDERS within 75 million or more men.
If you are actually concerned about the plight of children who are sexually abused, they why are you insisting the only abusers are Catholic priests?
If you want to see an end to these heinous abuses, then why are you protecting the VAST MAJORITY OF PEDOPHILES BY NEVER EVER EVER EVER REFERRING TO THEM SO YOU CAN KEEP BLAMING WHATEVER STRIKES YOUR FANCY ON ROMAN CATHOLIC PRIESTS ?
Do you even have a CLUE how low the sexual abuse rate is among priests compared to the general male population.
It’s more likely that your next-door neighbor is a child sexual abuser than any priest in this country since the mid 20th century.
That’s the numerical reality.
Or maybe those facts interfere with your goals?
If you can’t or won’t formulate this rational premise then you have just demonstrated to yourself in glaring black and white that you are a bigot. Congratulations. You can stick on your own labels.
At least you figured it out.
But onthe other hand, anti-Catholicism is more American than Apple pie. The Puritans started their reign of terror in the New World by attempting to re-import the Cecils’ Anti-Catholic laws by outlawing the faith of the thriving Maryland colony that beat them to the New World punch, then marching in and burning all their Churches to the ground. The first good old-fashioned American welcoming party? Maybe they were just poor losers.
And the first Thanksgiving by any possible description occurred at any of several times in the 80 years prior to the 1621 Plymouth rock tableau.
Have a dig on this: http://tinyurl.com/yh2a28
I especially like the Washington Times article from two Thanksgivings ago. Ever read that before you Passers of Anti-Catholic Justice, you?
And as you tuck into your turkey this holiday season, be thankful that all Roman Catholics aren’t imprisoned on sight in the USA, despite how many of them are wrongly assumed, and openly condemned in writing on the Internet to be child abusers by the likes of you.
After all, in Darfur, the government sends helicopter gunships to mow them down as they are coming out of Mass on Sunday mornings.
Happy Thanksgiving, logically proven anti-religious bigots.

Thanksgiving holiday quiz: What was the religion of the former owners of the 5.5 million of the 13 million Auschwitz-Birkenau body count tallied by the Yed Vasheh—who were NOT the 6.37 million who were Jewish?
(Hint: same as the estimated 15 to 300 million put to death between the world wars by Stalin… and… Jewish holocaust survivors always called them “the others”... SSssshh!).

Very interesting how 0% of these self-selecting slags against Catholicism, even the ones who claim to have so many decades of understanding of the Church, have the slightest most vague understanding of the essential difference between the worst behaviour of the worst members of the Church and the teaching of the Church.
News flash:
The Catholic Church is not a democracy. (See claimed founder for explanation).
As for people who describe themselves as “ex-Catholics,” as though that confers some sort of moral cudgel with suitable permissions granted, find me one single one of them who has no axe to grind, and posesses superior knowledge of what the object of their hatred actually is.
Let me save you some time: you can’t. And here’s why in three little words:
Straw Man Argument.
“In this country you could not find a hundred people who hate the Catholic Church, but you can find uncounted millions who hate what they mistakenly believe the Church to be.”
- Abp. Fulton J. Sheen
Of course, I’ve just been labelled by these lovely folks as someone who “defends pedophiles.”
That’s called a non sequitur. Guys with dripping cugels love non-sequiturs.
Why waste your time believing and spreading one straw man argument after another. A thrill from damaging the reputations of 1/4 of the American Population?
Um, wouldn’t that be un-American?
If you want to talk about who has been talked into believing what by whom, look up the total number of estimated pedophiles among the general male married population.
Compare that with total number of convicted or even alleged cases of pedophilia against all priests, ever.
But sit down while you’re doing this because the reality of the numbers will probably rock you as much as the realization that every human being on the planet could stand shoulder to shoulder in Rhode Island.
People either believe hard numerical facts or they deny them. Some people love to hate others so much, they will use any fantasy to get more of it, and fall over themselves to find more.
That’s revealing.
Next, ask yourself, if 83% of the cases involved males 17 or 18 years old, why doesn’t the media ever mention homosexual abuses? Why only and only ever ‘pedophilia’ : medically, involving strictly pre-pubescent children, when pre-pubescent abuses are vastly fewer than the whole of the abuses?
If 83% of all priest sex abuses involve males 17 or 18 why does the press persist in characterizing all of the tragedy ‘pedophila’ when that requires, by definition, a pre-pubescent child to be medically true?
Either the press are so stupid they don’t know what they are talking about, or they know exactly what they are saying and why. Interesting questions.
And if you are advocating for the destruction, suppression, banning or mere refusalof admission to the public square of all 25% of Americans who claim the Catholic faith, on the basis of your inbility to formulate a rational premise and accept grossly enormous numerical realities, then what kind of a freedom of speech advocate are you?
A dupe of the press, perhaps. Of course, mid 20th century history offers some chillingly similar examples.

They oppose birth control so they will have enough kids to molest. 80-90% of priests break their chastity vows somehow. They detest marriage because of the expense, drudgery, squalor, aging of wives, smelly childbirth incontinence afflicting 30-50% of all US moms, and women being the wrong gender. NFP is insulting—Nazi doctors proved simply scaring women causes out-of-cycle ovulation. Jesus never condemned Jerusalem’s RU-486-like weed harvested by his followers and his WIFE! 450 plants like coffee cause early abortions. Hermaphrodite babies prove God’s approval of gays.

An all-guy panel railing against homosexuality? What is wrong with this picture?
And the slimy patronizing of “accepting homosexuals” but not any expression of their sexuality. I wonder how long they’d last if they tried that on the rest of their adherents. The breeding stock have to be kept going, though.
These guys have been out of touch for hundreds of years, but they’re RICH, so they wield a lot of clout.

A Catholic all me life (I’m 76), I am astonished that the Bishops have approved these two documents - one without even consulting with the people most affected and the other flying in the face of what the vast majority of Catholic practice. I find it impossible to understand that one bishop said that people practising birth control should be denied communion- if that was enacted, it would empty the parishes. One of these days (not in my time) the bishops will get their heads out of the sand and acknowledge reality- I will pray that it is soon.

Such hipocracy.
...What could be more homosexual than the sructure of the Catholic church anyway? Has anyone asked what all those are men doing behind closed doors when they are not preying upon their altar boys?
.. Do they really think they are fooling anyone (who isn’t already brainwashed) into believing they can hide their thousand year history of systemic child abuse?
.. And tell me again why didn’t Jesus get married?

As an ex-Catholic, I completely reject this inane dictum. Over the centuries, just who do you think the vast majority of people in the convents and monasteries were? Children who were unmarriageable, namely the homosexuals. What sublime hypocrisy. The human race has paid dearly because St. Thomas Aquinas, among many others, simply could not come to terms with human sexuality.

The secular position is simple. It is none of gods business what consenting adults do in their bedrooms or elsewhere where their is no public good/interest involved. We presume that god has more important concerns,—-so bug off!

At a time when church attendance is down, and the Catholic church is closing churches (in order to pay the legal fees from pedophiles they protected…Jesus would be so proud!) I find it sad that these imbeciles still don’t get it.
Contraception in 2006? The rhythm method! LOL I guess they would rather excommunicate Catholics who practice birth control, and see the spread of AIDS (esp.in Africa and Asia) than accept birth control. Better dead or kept in a cycle of poverty than use a rubber.
They forbid priests to marry and deny women an equal partnership in the church…and they complain that there are too few people entering the seminaries? Try getting out of the Middle Ages!
These MEN just don’t get it. And non of this crap they spew is in the Bible.
It’s sad, I know plenty of Catholics who believe and miss going to services, but have left the Church because they can’t stand the hypocrisy any more.
These old farts have no idea what Christ is all about.

Except for those that have been brainwashed as children of Catholics, why should anyone care what these immoral, unethical, ignorant demagogues think.
They have shown throughout the ages that they don’t know what they are doing with the Inquisition, the anti semitic rants that allowed Hitler to pull off the Holocaust, taking 400 years to realize they were wrong about Galileo and the way they handled they handled the pedophile problem.

Once you’ve been convinced to be a SHEEP, and then invest your adult life in doing things expected of you as a SHEEP, it’s nigh on impossible to shed your SHEEP’s clothing, conditioning and closet to strike out on your own to discover what life is really all about.
It’s such a shame that so many millions are so perverted, so damaged by the phoney doctrines concocted by organized religions.
Doesn’t it ever dawn on these SHEEP that those who are telling them to be good little SHEEP are, in fact, SHEEP THEMSELVES? Look at that panel of bishops and other oh-so-serious, self-appointed representatives of God on earth. THEY ARE SHEEP. When the head SHEEP says BAAAAA, they all BAAAAA! Oh sure, some BAAAAA louder than others and at different times over different issues, but they all BAAAAA just the same.
What in truth is “inherently disordered” is their abstinence from natural human sexual relations. They have some gall sitting in judgement of others when they’re so screwed up themselves. What hypocrites!
PLEASE… anyone who still has any part of your brain working… RUN FROM THESE FRAUDS AS FAST AS YOU CAN. Save your sanity, your money and your life!
