Though he hasn’t made any official announcement, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to launch a presidential exploratory committee—the first step toward running for the highest office in the land.
Washington Post:
Aides to McCain say the senator will discuss whether to seek the presidency with his family over the Christmas holiday and decide thereafter.
Establishing an exploratory committee allows a potential candidate to raise money for a White House run and travel the country.
McCain is a former Navy pilot who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam. He was elected to the Senate in 1986 and had served in the House for four years before that.
If McCain were to run, he would turn 72 on Aug. 29, 2008, at the height of the campaign. Only President Reagan was older—73 at the start of his second term. McCain’s health could be another issue. The senator has had several cancerous lesions removed from his skin.

I wonder if health issues might be an insuperable obstacle for Hon. Sen. McCain? I’m more interested (concerned? about wether Hon. Sen. Lieberman still has the itch.

McCain is another Bush sell-out, just like Colin Powell. It’s a pity that people who spend decades building up a career throw it away in a few years. Then again, Bush keeps recycling all the old Reagan Iran/Contra guys, so there’s probably a future for both of them.

I fully agree with the comments made by Rich [Comment #37706 ] and John Stanton [Comment #37694 ] John McCain is nothing more than a ‘hack’ and ‘Bush MINION’. He puts lapdog-like loyalty to Bush, over INTEGRITY or standing up for PRINCIPLES.The latest flagrant example being, his comments following the Kerry ‘botched’ joke. It is absolutely outrageous that he had time to comment on that instead of trying to speak up on all the crap that this adminstration is doing. I have NO respect for McCain or Colin Powell for that matter, for the same reasons.

McCain is much too old especially now. Even Republicans would be foolish to consider a candidate his age and more than foolish for Americans to go from Neocons to Paleocons.

McCain is very dangerous, extremely dangerous even more so than w. and the neocons.
Somehow, McCain has managed to project an image of a “principled politician”—an oxymoron - who is above the fray while he was a big supporter of the War ON Irag.
The Republicans think they have a sure winner in McCain for 2008, so folks should start going over his dismal record in the Senate e.g. like how he caved for w. on the military tribunals and habeus corpus and expose him before he gets off the ground.
This guy is DANGEROUS and a smarter version of w.!
