Is the GOP Using Robo-Calls to Depress Turnout?

Email this item Email    Print this item Print

Posted on Nov 7, 2006

In Nebraska, it appears GOP operatives are blanketing residents with “robo-calls” containing the Democratic candidate’s voice—in order to get voters so angry with the Dem that they vote against him.
We agree with John at AMERICAblog: Throw these bums in jail.

AMERICAblog:

... Just because it’s Scott Kleeb’s prerecorded voice on the other line, doesn’t mean his campaign is behind the phone call, according to his communications director.

Prerecorded telephone messages supposedly from Kleeb, a Third Congressional District candidate, have been repeatedly calling people in Central Nebraska, and Ben Lumpkin, Kleeb’s communications director, is concerned about the effects.

It’s definately illegal, but the Do Not Call list exempts political groups from lawsuit and complaint.  (Because politicians made it, of course.)

I propose a class-action lawsuit against the RNC for violating any and all laws pertaining to these non-stop robo-calls.

Surely anyone registered with the federal do-not-call list (I’m on it) would have a case here.

Wouldn’t all these stories about fake voter guides and constant phone calls qualify as crimes under the RICOH Act?

Any attorneys out there willing to take a stab at at this?

Damn right, throw them in jail!  The fact that this type of voter suppression/intimidation is happening across the country fairly SCREAMS conspiracy.  And we call the Mafia organized crime!  They look like small-time franchisees next to the people so blatantly pulling this shit.
