Me too, R.A., but I am also pissed. I actually believed, well at least halfway, the hype about this country until Reagan, then the old by their fruits thing got louder and louder, till I saw Noam Chomsky on Canadian television…you will not ever see him on American CorpTV….searched out some of his books…not easy at that time, sort of like my visit to a local news stand/bookstore in Shreveport, La. in the 60s looking for a book by James Baldwin only to finally ask and be told that THEY would not allow his books on the racks…..and started learning about the country I was raised in. So I am to blame, with my fellow citizens for this mess. No excusing ourselves any more than we wanted to excuse the German citizens after WW2. If our government says it is OK to torture folks then that is us…we are the US….accessories after the fact…that´s US.

This administratin is about Bush and if Bush is about christianity, then torture is chriatian value.
Since torture is christian value and christian value dominates american value, then american value is toruture.
Who would have thtought that in 6 short years, american values are devalued to the carpet low.
Lets cheers to the so called “born again christian”. Or born again Satan? You be the judge.

Was this part of the leaked senate report that found Iraq is breeding new terrorists? Well, like Condy says, this is obviously taken out of context.

American Heritage Dictionary - thug (thg)
n.
A cutthroat or ruffian; a hoodlum.
also Thug—- One of a band of professional assassins formerly active in northern India who worshiped Kali and offered their victims to her.
Thugs were religous fanatics, too!

Right wingers believe that might makes right. They have to be treated in a similar manor. The next time you come across a right winger threatening Muslims or Mexicans or socialists—- whoever they hate at the moment call for their arrest and execution.

This must be an example that Christian Spain must have have gleaned from the Old Testament….if you question religion as source of morality, read Leviticus and Deuteronomy (and others) to see what the Old Testament (God’s words via Moses’ mouth) teaches…they clearly don’t seem to be the laws preached by Jesus…tolerance for sinners and the like were clearly not recognized…..stoning obstanent children and killing people immediately upon blasphemy and the like…(if you don’t believe me…read the OT it is quite explicit)....I think it is rather clear that this is what this country’s President et. al. expouse in spight of their lip service to the teaching of Jesus…it is clearly deplorable

It takes a woodcut from the 18th century to disgust us?
Are we that removed from the reality of the pain and horrer imposed by our Government on prisnors of war? A large number of whom are still languishing in Guantanamo because thier Governments are too weak to get them out, unlike the Canadians and Brits that had thier citizens released.
How many more are their in wire cages, waiting to die.
Shame on us.

I don’t think so. It’s just that America is far better at “spin” and “hype” to blur and hide it’s underbelly of ugly reality.
It’s such a shock to wake up and realize that actually we have “met the enemy, and the enemy is US.” We are no better than thugs.
Absolute power corrupts… and boy, has it ever corrupted US absolutely. I’m so ashamed.
