The L.A. Times debuts a multi-part special on alleged atrocities and abuses of Afghans at the hands of U.S. Special Forces.

  • Andrew Sullivan, commenting on this, writes: “In the future, when history is written, just remember: It’s not that we weren’t told what was going on. It’s that we looked the other way.”

  • L.A. Times:

... Within days of the Wazi killing, an 18-year-old Afghan army recruit named Jamal Naseer died after being interrogated at the team’s firebase in Gardez, about 25 miles to the north. Multiple witnesses say his body showed signs of severe beating and other abuse. His brother and six others also held at Gardez say they were tortured.

The commander over all Special Forces in Afghanistan at the time, then-Col. James G. “Greg” Champion, said in a brief interview that neither death was reported up the chain of command. Champion, a National Guardsman who has since been promoted to brigadier general, said he did not hear of the deaths until 18 months later, when he learned that The Times was investigating.

WHOSE CHILDREN ARE THESE SPECIAL FORCES UNITS WHO ARE KILLING AND MAIMING WITH SUCH ABANDON. DO YOU THINK YOUR CHILDREN ARE IMMUNE TO THIS. DO YOU THINK, IN THESE CIRCUMSTANCES, THE MAJORITY OF KIDS RAISED IN OUR MACHO WORSHIPPING SOCIETY COULD NOT SUCCUMB TO THE SAME MADNESS. ARTHUR CLARKE POINTED OUT IN SEVERAL OF HIS BOOKS THAT WAR IS SO ATTRACTIVE BECAUSE IT IS FUN......YOU GET TO OPERATE OUTSIDE ALL LAWS, LEGAL AND MORAL, WITHOUT GOING TO JAIL, AND YOU HAVE ALL THOSE WHIZ BANG TOYS. BUT AFTER THE FACT, WHEN THEY COME HOME, HOW DO YOU PUT THIS GENIE BACK IN THE BOTTLE.

dick “torture” cheney should be stripped naked and shackled to the floor of a dank cell with the “head-on” commercial blasting in a continuous loop at an unbearable pitch until he pisses himself and confesses to all of the secret off-shore accounts the rest of his war profits are stashed in. the sadistic mass-murdering piece of shit.

    had enough?
