The U.N.‘s chief anti-torture expert, Manfred Nowak, says: “The situation is so bad many people say it is worse than it has been in the times of Saddam Hussein.”  Sectarian violence has filled the Baghdad morgue with bodies bearing evidence of brutal torture. More

BBC:
The UN report says detainees’ bodies often show signs of beating using electrical cables, wounds in heads and genitals, broken legs and hands, electric and cigarette burns.

Bodies found at the Baghdad mortuary “often bear signs of severe torture including acid-induced injuries and burns caused by chemical substances”.

Many bodies have missing skin, broken bones, back, hands and legs, missing eyes, missing teeth and wounds caused by power drills or nails, the UN report says.

when it comes to “torture” we should try to discern between it and humiliation. I think we (USA) have been accused of torture when actually , it was just terrible humiliation inflicted on prisoners. While it was awful, I don’t think it’s on the same scale as typical torture , like burning people or pulling thier nails out etc.

There are those who are always in an uproar over what they imagine could be the USA’s indulging in this sort of horrendous behaviour. Torture is lowly, and unforgivable, and I can’t imagine the United States of America ever using it . At least, if it DID happen, it would be an isolated incident, and not something that is a habit . It’s not that way with the Muslim army , no matter what rank or unit, they habitually torture enemies. They maim, cut, burn, beat, gouge eyes out, and even pull skin off of them. How blood-curdling—ugh—! They can’t just shoot a prisoner, they have to beat and behead him. I’ve found myself asking “what kind of people are these who get a kick out or making others suffer.Knowing Muslims, it is not far-fetched to imagine Allah has told them to inflict terrible pain on the enemy , esp. the “infidels” .

As I said torture is a lowly thing. The lowest of lowly. What kind of people make it an a common occurance ?

Couldn’t agree more Frankster.  Now I like truthdig even more because by publishing emails like yours T.D. proves they are not just allowing one side to be heard.

The irony is that Bush really did liberate Iraq.

Iraq was under the control of a dictator who suppressed intertribal conflicts through brutal authoritarianism. Now the Iraqis have been freed to do as they please.  Apparently, what pleases them is to torture and slaughter each other over minor religious differences.  In Iraq, it’s not enough to be a fellow muslim. You have to be the right brand of muslim, or face the deadly consequences.

Bush has indeed freed the Iraqis. They are now free to slaughter themselves again as they have for centuries.  Viva liberation.

all iraqis must be grateful that bush has liberated them—so what if many iraqis died or sustained long-lasting wounds?—what counts is the good christian news

let’s all bow our heads & praise jesus, that bloodthirsty, warmongering, smallminded, meanspirited, bigoted little god
