The secretary of defense added another item to the revolving and evolving list of reasons we invaded Iraq: If we hadn’t, Saddam “would be rolling in petrol dollars. Think of the oil price today. He would have so much money.”
Excuse us, we’ll be back in a moment. We need to de-lice after just reading something like that.

ThinkProgress:

Now, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld has introduced a new rationale for the invasion of Iraq, high gas prices. From a radio interview last week:

SECRETARY RUMSFELD: The fact of the matter is - if Saddam Hussein were still in power in Iraq, he would be rolling in petrol dollars. Think of the price of oil today. He would have so much money.

And the hits keep on coming ! I know why Mr. Rumsfeld expresses such delusions . A good majority of Americans live in the same dream world. They will allow this man to think for them. After all, didn’t they let Mr. Rumsfeld and mob march right into Iraq ? Let me thank the Red states for all the love in sending Mr. Bush and Company.

The name of the game and the only reason Bush invaded Iraq is for the oil.....one would think to have the oil so the Untied States could have it to sell right, have lower prices for us the AMerican people....no my friend that would mean if there was more oil on the market the prices should drop.....no they are in control of the oil in Iraq but its all aboiut SUPPRESSION of the oil therefore Bush and his oilman friends can RAISE THE PRICE.....do you honestly think they want more oil on the market and they chave to lower their prices?????It’s only about the oil and money

Rumsfeld’s excuse of the week is ridiculous.  Sadaam Hussein was already “rolling in petro-dollars” before the war began.  I remember seeing an article in Time magazine published late in 2002 that said that he already had amassed a fortune of billions of dollars.  Some idea of his pre-war wealth can be obtained from looking at the twenty or more palaces he maintained throughout the country, so that he could flit from one to another on short notice, and avoid always returning to the same place each night to avoid assasination.
