I saw a news clip yesterday showing Chavez walking next to Ahmadinejad and excitedly speaking with him. Chavez speaks Spanish and Ahmadinejad speaks Farsi. I doubt either speak English so what language were they communicating in? It would be awkward talking thru an interpreter while hugging each other.

So maybe Iran and Venezuela can sell each other ... oil.  Truth be told, Chávez is merely looking for any way he can to elicit hostile responses from the Bush White House and his allied necon pundits, talk radio braggarts, and televangelists.  Each time one of them calls for “regime change” in Venezuela, it feeds Chávez’s contention that the US is behind opposition to his regime.  Legitimate domestic oppponents get painted as agents of “el nefasto imperialismo yanqui.” Chávez will go on tooting this horn the same way the GOP attacks Dems for being “soft on terror.” Meanwhile, Venezuela will continue to sell most of its oil to the US.  Neither side will disrupt this.

So, is it better to have Ahmadinejad as a friend or an enemy? I know which I’d pick. I think he has more to worry about than starting a war.

And I’ve always liked Chavez, one reason being his refusal to be bullied. He’s using his resources to stabilize his country (all of its citizens, not just the rich ones) and is holding talks with world leaders. Sounds like diplomacy to me.

I am an america and I support Iran in the desire to become a world power and any country that want to obtain nuclear weapons, has the same right as america has to build such weapons.  Remember, the only country to actually use them and kill millions of innocent people is America.  Now, America fights an illegal war, lied about it and continue to kill innocent people, rebuild other countries and ignore the people at home.  It is really a shame.  More power to Iran.

What’s your point here?

The mocking language that you have used indicates that you think:

1. Iran and Venezuala are bad apples and that we should be worried about them signing agreements with each other.

2. that there is no such thing as US hegemony, or that its existence is a figment of the imagination of the loony left.

I wouldn’t have been surprised if the above snippet had issued from the lips of Chris Hitchens or some other neocon war booster. But Truthdig?
