Novak and Armitage Trade Accusations Over Leak

Richard Novak and Richard Armitage
From the Washington Post

Robert Novak, left, and Richard Armitage

Columnist Robert Novak and former Deputy Secretary of State Richard Armitage can’t agree on what Armitage’s intentions were when he told Novak about Valerie Plame’s employment by the CIA. Novak claims it was a deliberate leak; Armitage says it was much more casual.

  • As a DailyKos poster points out, however, this is the fourth time that Novak has changed his tune on this.

  • DailyKos:

Columnist Robert D. Novak, who first revealed Valerie Plame’s employment by the CIA and touched off a lengthy federal leak investigation, is accusing his primary source of misrepresenting their conversation to make the source’s role in the disclosure seem more casual than it was.

In an unusual column that appears today, Novak says his initial source, former deputy secretary of state Richard L. Armitage, was more sure of Plame’s ties to the CIA than the source has indicated. Novak adds that Armitage linked her directly to her husband’s CIA-sponsored trip to Niger and suggested the disclosure would be a good item for Novak’s column.

This differs from Armitage’s assertions last week that his disclosure was made in an offhand manner and that he did not know why Plame’s husband was sent to Niger.

    Don’t you get it?
Libby did not out Valery Plame, and the trial and charges brought forth were not about Valery Plame.  Colin Powell’s right hand man outed her, Richard Amitage, and they are not friends of the Bush administration and never have been.  The only reason they were there was because of Bush’s “new tone” policy to include doves and liberals in his administration and they all stabbed Bush in the back.
Joe Wilson (Plame’s husband) lied to the New York Times, he said he found no evidence that Iraq was trying to get nuclear material but his testimony to Congress and in his report to the CIA said they were.  Under oath he said one thing and to the news papers he says another. And see how the news media overlooks these little details. Real creditable, another Bush hater that will send this country to hell because he hates George Bush.  Wilson and Plame, real Americans? A real disgrace!
God Bless America and help us all.

There are professionals at the CIA, and there are GOP party hacks there too. They are in conflict, clearly.  The party hacks are only interested in “political acceptable” hires, the professionals want the best people.

This should be no surprise—Since Mad King George began his distruction of our American Republic in January 2001, he has put “politically reliable” people at the head of EVERY government agency, no matter how insignificant—FEMA after Katrina is a wicked example of that.

Armitage was one of those, put at State to keep an eye on Colin Powell.  Like Novak, his actions, and the actions of Cheney, Libby, and, of course, Karl Rove, in “outing” Valery Plame constitute the legal definition of TREASON.  And they should pay the price for it.

Today, the Washington Post has documented what we all inferred to be true: That the Iraq reconstruction was nothing but a big money grab and chance for the neo-cons to test their theories.  The lead vetter would start by asking applicants if they voted for Bush, did the support the President’s anti-terror policies and even if they opposed Roe v. Wade!  A 24 year old with NO financial experience, but lots of political reliability was put in charge of re-starting the Iraqi stock exchange—and botched it royally. This scenario was repeated again and again under Bremer’s incompetent (but politically reliable) leadership.

Iraq never had a chance for recovery.

In the middle ages, a person accused of a crime would be subjected to torture, on the grounds that God would not let an innocent be hurt.  So people were made to walk over hot coals to see if their feet were burnt.  Today’s Bushian neocons are just as rational in their pipe-dreams for the world. EVERY SINGLE ONE of their plans and policies has been a dismal failure—from tax cuts for the rich, to removing polution restraints, to politicizing the federal bureacracy, to their vision for the world.  Nearly 100,000 people have died in Iraq alone for their failed and flawed vision.

That’s what Mad King George and his Merrie Fascists have brought us.

Now, we find out that Nixon seriously planned on starting a nuclear war in North Viet Nam.  And Mad King George is talking about it in Iraq.  If Nixon, who was far smarter, far better educated, and far more worldly, was stupid enough to realistically consider it, how much more terrifying is it that this arrogant ignoramous is?

Mr. Armitage was a member of PNAC and signed their 1998 letter to Clinton advocating the overthrow of Saddam. He was appointed to the State Dept. by Bush and Cheney (Cheney was also a member of PNAC). To claim that Armitage has no ties to the White House is a flat out lie.

it doesn’t matter—novak & armitage are both nitwits

as to the cia, its job is to harass & persecute innocent americans—given how it gets everything wrong whenever it assesses international affairs, one can only infer that it’s following an ideology instead of going after facts—the result is that innocent americans suffer, excepting the elite who profit from halliburton, carlyle et al & who use the cia to further their ends

anybody who says the cia means well & tries to do a good job needs to explain why our government discourages the hiring of staff who can speak arabic & encourages the firing of staff who can speak arabic
