Arctic Ice Decline Confirms Global Warming Predictions

The amount of ice being formed in the Arctic winter has declined sharply in the past two years, which a NASA scientist called “the strongest evidence of global warming in the Arctic so far.”

  • Also, this summer was the second-hottest on record in the continental U.S. since records started being kept in 1895.

  • Washington Post:

The amount of ice being formed in the Arctic winter has declined sharply in the past two years, a finding that NASA climate researchers say significantly increases their confidence that greenhouse gases created by autos and industry are warming the Arctic and the globe.

For years, scientists have reported a steady decrease in summertime Arctic ice, but they had never before found a similar reduction in the amount of ice being created during the frigid and dark Arctic winter. This lack of effect on the Arctic winter was one flaw in the scientific models of global warming, which predicted a steady decrease in ice formation.

But a new paper by Josefino Comiso, a senior research scientist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, found precisely the reduction in wintertime ice over the past two years that the model had predicted. The past two winters each produced 6 percent less ice than the average amount measured for almost three decades.

Poor, confused Julio. You have so many false statements in your post, it’s hard to know where to begin.
    1. Every reputable scientist on the planet is NOT telling you that humans are causing global warming and we’re all going to die. In fact, almost 18,000 scientists here in the U.S. have signed a petition stating that the global warming didaster hysteria is a myth.
    2. The leading proponent of global warming today, Al Gore, is a proven liar, and he is certifiably insane. He does, however, make good science fiction movies, so he’s got that going for him. Which is nice!
    3. I DO have testicles (2) and I DO have children (3) and I do care about the future. I DON’T want our future determined by a bunch of nuts who believe global warming is valid scientific truth. It’s not.
The truth, for those who don’t want to “live like a pig with it’s head in the sand” (what kind of freaky pigs are you familiar with, Julio?) is that weather/climate goes through cycles. Sometimes it rains, sometimes it snows, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it’s cold. Your local TV weather guy/gal will never predict anything past 5 days, because they just don’t know what the weather is going to do. That tells me that the people who so strongly believe “The Inconvenient Truth” are the same people who put tin-foil on their windows so that aliens can’t monitor their brain waves. May The Force Be With You!

Hondo, after an idiotic statement like that it
wouldn’t surprise me if you where still living
in your parents basement watching Star Trek.

Now I want to respond to #23374 Hondo. First, Hondo means deep and in your case we must be talking about the bottom of the barrel, bottom of the class and on….

Now, if every reputable scientist in the planet is telling me that humans are the cause of the problem and pointing to the specific source of the problem, I would listen. Then I would try to find a solution to get rid of the problem as soon as possible and not get into an argument that gives me an excuse not to do anything and live on like a pig with it’s head in the sand.

You don’t have any testicles. You will not have any children, therefore you have nothing to leave behind, therefore you don’t care.

I hope this helps sorting out your confusion.

    Julio

    In Response To Hondo;

Nice ridiculing tone, as is common with the climate change skeptic camp, and a similar lack of scientific backup. Unfortunately, the reality is the vast majority of climate scientists agree we have a serious situation on our hands. This current report (and the disturbing news from Siberia just published in Nature magazine, more legitimate, peer reviewed science) further amplifies the sense of urgency we should all be feeling.

For those interested in tackling the problem rather than burying heads in sand, I came across an interesting program being run by Greenpeace for people to host houseparties aimed at changing the climate in the US congress:

    Sounds like a good idea…

Five of the top 10 hottest summers ever occured during the 1930’s. The weather was so brutal that Dust Bowl conditions were created. Was that part of Al Gore’s global warming as well? Did the evil Bush/Cheney/Rove triumverate take the “way-back machine” back to the ‘30’s to cause their heat wave? What sinister GOP plot caused the devastation wrought in that unfortunate decade? Or possibly, was that just part of the natural up-and-down cycle of the weather that has existed on earth since the beginning of time? Global warming? Sounds like a great plot line for a new Star Trek movie!
