An Army officer has recommended the execution of four soldiers, should they be found guilty of murder.  The soldiers are accused of improperly shooting three Iraqi detainees during a raid.  No U.S. soldier has been executed since 1961.

BBC News:

Army Staff Sgt Raymond Girouard, Spc William Hunsaker, Pfc Corey Claggett and Spc Juston Graber have admitted the killings in Tikrit in May.

They said they acted in self-defence, after the detainees tried to escape.

Under military law, the maximum penalty for premeditated murder is a death sentence.

“Justice will prevail for all those who are guilty.”

Oh, if only it were true. Unfortunately, our system of justice, because of all the loopholes, plea bargains and behind-the-scenes political interference, is likely only to “prevail” when the outcome doesn’t matter to anyone important.

Otherwise, you can forget “justice.”

I believe that only a trial will find the truth in this.  The legal system was set up for situations like this one where you are assumed innocent until proven guilty.  People may argue that the media has tainted them guilty before even stepping foot into a court room but then the public is at fault for not allowing for a proper trial to take place and to seek the truth out.  Justice will prevail for all those who are guilty.
