S.R. Sidarth
Rich Lipski / The Washington Post

S.R. Sidarth said he knew that George Allen “was injecting some sort of derogatory comment toward me that had a racial bent to it” when the senator called him “macaca.”

Can’t get enough backstory on Va. Sen. George Allen’s racist remark? Neither can the Washington Post, which posted this 1,300-word profile on the object of Allen’s remark, 20-year-old U. Va student S.R. Sidarth.

  • Allen’s lead over his rival for the Senate has evaporated in the wake of his comment. (Go, blog power!)

  • The Washington Post:

... Back at school in Charlottesville now, Sidarth has taken his new, unwanted fame with him.

Larry J. Sabato, an oft-quoted political pundit who teaches a small, popular seminar on campaigns and elections, said he asked students to write an essay as part of the admission process. Eighty people applied for the course, including Sidarth. His essay was just three words long—but it was enough to clinch one of the 20 coveted spots in the class.

    “I am Macaca,” he wrote.

I was an intern for George Allen in college when he was governor of Virginia. (1996) As far as I knew him he was an ok fellow. Tall and imposing as some politicians are but he wasn’t a racist or anything.
I think this incident with Mr. Sidarth was an unfortunate mis-speak. Like, he probably didn’t mean it to be a racial slur but just came up with that word ‘macaca’ out of the blue as if it were some generic Indian name to identify the guy.
He might deserve some slack for that comment. Besides, he apolotized and he also did a fine job of running the Governor’s office in Virginia and has served the country well. For what it’s worth.

PS George Allen isn’t jewish. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that! heh)

What an uncool news. This George Allen must be very bad.
I guess he had to blackmail a lot of people, before going into politics. Very bad man.

Thank you for sharing this story with me !

Most politicians are low but this Allen guy is really carpet low. Doubly shame is the fact that Allen is a jew.

This Allen is an American Cancer.

On November 7, America will owe a debt of gratitude to courageous Sid for videotaping Racist Allen (he was always a redneck rebel even in the Governor’s mansion).  George Allen will be defeated on Tuesday, Nov. 7 thanks to the blogosphere and cyberspace.  The Dems will pick up the 6th seat they need:
Virginia, PA, R.I., Ohio, Missiouri and Montana.  Virginia will be the crowne jewel and we all are so, so, grateful to this courageous young man.
