The “Headline News” anchor set the record straight and admitted to Lamont that no one had called him “the Al Qaeda candidate.”

Kudos to Chuck Roberts for making the honorable admission.

  • BobHarris.com:

Chuck Roberts on CNN Headline News, interviewing Ned Lamont, just apologized for these comments by saying this:

You know, I owe you an apology.  Last week, I led into an interview with a guest analyst and really botched the set-up.  The guest had wanted to discuss the Dick Cheney and Joe Lieberman statements suggesting that terror groups—Al Qaeda types, to use Cheney’s words—would be buoyed by your win, but I posed it badly, stupidly ad-libbing about “some saying Lamont is the Al-Qaeda candidate.”  No one, in fact, used that construction.  Anyway, I wanted to correct the record, and I’m glad we had this chance to do it.  Now, let’s get to the insinuations that were lobbed…

“Kudos to Chuck Roberts for making the honorable admission….”?

Now we are supposed to praise Chuck Roberts? A mere apology means nothing unless he also reveals what motivated him. I believe it was intentional to undermine him for the general elections. It is part of CNN’ push for GOP and other right wing candidates.

Apology is not enough. He must also explain what motivated him to refer to Lemont as the Al Qaeda candidate. He absolutely should not remain in the position he occupies…CNN has no credibility as an news organization.

Kudos for apologizing?  Mr. Roberts is a professional.  He full well knows that misrepresenting the facts, falsifying the truth, and defamatory statements are always unacceptable. Especially when uttered by news persons.  CNN has been harmed by the falacious remarks and Mr. Roberts should be fired.  Immediately.  Where is Ted Turner when you need him?  He need to purchase CNN and return it to its once respected status.

It seems Chuck Roberts meant it tongue-in-cheek, which is easily misinterpreted these days—one should be very careful—it can lead to unfortunate misunderstanings, what with the likes of Cheney around.
