In a First, Bush Directs Criticism at Israel

Bush said neither Israel nor Hezbollah should escalate the month-old war. Despite Bush’s comments, Israel today decided to launch a massive ground attack into southern Lebanon.

  • Israel lost 15 soldiers on Wednesday—its deadliest day of the war; Lebanon’s deadliest was Monday (link—scroll down).

  • Washington Post:

The White House said Wednesday neither Israel nor Hezbollah should escalate their month-old war, as Israel decided to widen its ground invasion in southern Lebanon.

White House press secretary Tony Snow said the U.S. message was for both sides, though his remarks came after Israel’s Security Cabinet voted to expand the war effort in an attempt to deal further blows to Hezbollah.

“We are working hard now to bridge differences between the United States position and some of the positions of our allies,” Snow told reporters in Texas, where President Bush was vacationing. “We want an end to violence and we do not want escalations.”

Meanwhile, rifts over a plan to stop the fighting delayed approval of a resolution at the U.N. Security Council. The U.S. and France were offering competing versions.

I gree with the last comment both USA & UK states are reluctant to tell the real truth about civilian deaths in the three areas of conflict since the begginning of the Bush /Blair war on terror.
Do you feel safer today ?
    Thank you B & B.

I think the events on the ground should serve as a reminder to all that the so called war on terrorism is a war of choice, not of neccessity. The fact remains that the invasion of Lebanon was arbitrary, based on an assumption that Arabs can be trappled upon, based on previous wars fought, but today we are seeing some spine in their fight back. This shows that continued oppression can develop a backbone in the oppressed and subjucated and it’s time to start a different dialogue in the Middle East, a dialogue between evenly matched neighbors, one that can inflict mutual pain, instead of one sided pain

The world most well equipped nuclear tipped military backed up by the sole superpower on this planet is getting licked by a few militia’s who supposedly are just mad terrorist out to destroy the state of Israel! The actions on the ground show otherwise, it’s a legitimate resistance against an aggressive occupationist force of a regional bully who loves to show of it’s muscle in response to a pinch.

Your articles continue to state the number of rockets Hezbollah lobbes into Israel. Why don’t you mention the number of bombs and artillary shells the Israeli army and airforce lob into Lebanon. If the number of rockets are news, then the other should be news as well. Fair is fair.
