Lieberman and Bush
From btlonline.org

With mere hours to go before the Connecticut primary vote, Sen. Joe Lieberman said a victory for challenger Ned Lamont would send a message to the country: “In the Democratic Party, there’s no room for strong-on-security Dems.”

  • Actually, a victory for Lamont would send a message that there’s no room in the party for Dems who coddle President Bush as he exploits the so-called war on terror to launch imperialist misadventures.

  • National Review Online:

This afternoon at the Rajun Cajun restaurant in Hartford, Joe Lieberman told reporters that he was pleased at a recent Quinnipiac poll that showed his opponent’s lead down from 14 points to only six. With the primary election mere hours away, Lieberman made many of the same points that he made in a major campaign speech last night. He said:

I soul-search everyday on Iraq, and maybe what I didn’t do enough in this campaign is convey that… of course I want to bring our troops home, but I want to bring our troops home in victory and honor. That’s what we need, and that’s what they deserve.

Lieberman said that this race is about whether the Democratic Party “will accept a diversity of opinion” on national security. He defined himself as a Democrat in the mold of John F. Kennedy, Harry S Truman and Bill Clinton – that is, one with “a real socially progressive record, and strong on national security.”

He said a victory for Lamont will send a message to the country: “In the Democratic Party, there’s no room for strong-on-security Dems.” He said that would be disastrous for the Democrats. “You can’t win in this country,” he said, “unless you assure people” that you aren’t going to compromise on national security. He said he has backed the war on terror because he never forgets about the “radical Islamic terrorists who attacked us on 9/11 and want to do it again.”

“When did the republicans start moving to the center?”

maybe the radicals shout loudest (on both sides of the fence), but if you listen closely you might realize that the majority of congress (and, indeed, the public) are far more moderate than either bush or lamont. after these 8 years of a radical administration, bet on seeing plenty of bush-distancing in the upcoming congressional races.

    This from Joe Sullivan:

    >>Making unrealistic promises like pulling out of iraq might get you nominated, but running an unrealistic campaign would be tantamount to handing the republicans our country for another term. <<

<<Lieberman is about to experience the rejection that the Republicans will receive in November because of the Iraq War, and because Lamont has started the ball rolling.>>

Wow, Bu$h kissing Joe; a while back he was strolling hand in hand at Camp David with a Saudi Sheik, and of course we all know about Jeff Gannon, the homosexual prostitute that had very frequent after hours visits to the White House.  I think Bu$h is a homosexual.

“I think it would be an incredibly stupid move for the democratic party to move to the left as the republicans move to the center”

When did the republicans start moving to the center? Did I miss that? Was it the wiretapping-is-ok-lock-em-up-forever-without-trial-
    no-flag-burning-no-gay-marriage-
    raise-the-minimum-wage/lower-the-estate-taxes thing?

    Was that it?

Call me crazy, but this is how i see everything going down…

Lamont will win the primary today.  The CT dems are just that crazy (but only the ones who care enough to vote in a primary).

Lieberman will run as an independent and BLOW LAMONT OUT OF THE WATER in general election.  All the normal people will come out and want to keep their statesman in.

It’s amzing to see republicans defending Joe, so if he’s so loved by republicans why they don’t put him to represent them.

Good ol’ Joe scaring demos to believe he is the hawk to love. Let us be honest if Joe loses this campaign he will be regulated to obscurity for the remainder of his life. Unlike Lyndon Johnson, Joe has no class. Johnson saw the writing on the wall and chose to do the right thing…not good ol’ Joe.

Shouldn’t it be painfully obvious to everyone by now that Joe Lieberman’s only loyalty is to himself, not to his constituents and not to the Democratic Party?  There’s plenty of room in the Democratic Party for strong-on-security Dems, Mr. Lieberman,.  What you just can’t seem to understand is that the people who elected you think that keeping our troops in Iraq doesn’t strengthen our security, it WEAKENS it!!

Of course, when George Bush manufactures an excuse to start bringing our troops home (NOT in “victory and honor” since that would be impossible given the deteriorating conditions in Iraq), you’ll be right there, won’t you, no doubt hugging your commander-in-chief.  You’ve hitched your wagon to a man who is unconstitutionally assuming imperial powers in his so-called “war on terror”, Senator Lieberman, and in so doing you’ve not only compromised national security but you’ve also compromised yourself.  With any luck the people of Connecticut are going to replace you with a man who understands that his first responsibility and loyalty should be to the people who elected him!

I think it would be an incredibly stupid move for the democratic party to move to the left as the republicans move to the center… it would make re-electing a republican congress and president a no-brainer. Of course, the democratic party DOES understand this—just not the voters. One thing’s for sure: no dem will get beyond the primary with as hard a stance on the war as Lamont is taking. Making unrealistic promises like pulling out of iraq might get you nominated, but running an unrealistic campaign would be tantamount to handing the republicans our country for another term.
