U.S. and France Agree on Mideast Cease-Fire Plan

The draft Security Council resolution seeks an immediate halt to fighting in Lebanon, and calls for the mobilization of international peacekeepers.

AP:

The U.S. and France agreed Saturday on a draft Security Council resolution that seeks an immediate halt to fighting in Lebanon, breaking a three-week impasse caused partly by Washington’s refusal to press Israel to end its offensive against Hezbollah.

The resolution would chart a path toward a lasting peace with a cease-fire monitored by international troops. If passed, it would be the most significant international response to the crisis and raise hopes of ending combat that has killed at least 600 and left Lebanon in tatters.

The resolution must now go before the full 15-nation Security Council and gain Israeli and Lebanese acceptance—and initial comments indicated that would not be easy.

Now that Israel has made Hezbollah into THE heroic movement of the non-Jew Middle East ... the new imperial power (USA) and an old colonial power (France) are going to try to salvage something for Israel out of the debacle ... and claim victory.

I believe the idiots on my side (USA - Israel - France with Great Britain standing in the wings) are actually thinking that if worse comes to worse, we have the nukes.

And then we stand around wringing our hands over Iran wanting nukes.

Look at it this way: we keep escalating conflict holding the hole cards of nuclear weapons ... and then wonder why everyone else wants ‘em.

What’s the definition of insanity? “Keep doing the same thing and expecting different results” is one that I am familiar with.

The US & France & a whole lot of other countries have been “agreeing” on peace plans for the middle east for DECADES. How many more times do we have to go through these stupid motions THAT DO NOT WORK?

The ONLY people who are going to find permanent solutions to these ancient conflicts are those directly involved… the Israelis and the Palestinians and the Lebanese etc.

So WHO CARES IF THE US & FRANCE AGREE? When I hear that Israel and Lebanon and Palestine AGREE, then you’ll have my attention. Until then… I’m fed up with this bullshit.

Oh yes… and if it’s the case that Israel & Lebanon & Palestine NEVER agree… it’s STILL THEIR BUSINESS, NOT OURS. Let ‘em blow one another up until there’s no one left. It’s just not our business.

OK, does it make any sense that Hezbollah had
no input into this cease-fire plan. What the U.S. and France were up to was delusional diplomacy.

What we have here is an apperance to do something
while the killing continues. What I call
image diplomacy.

This is bullshit. It is merely an enforcement of Israels position.  It is not a cease fire in place. Fighting will continue.
