Hezbollah rockets killed at least six in Israel; almost 10,000 Israeli troops have crossed in Lebanon; and a U.S. veto is blocking the U.N. Security Council from demanding an immediate cease-fire.

AP:

Israeli police say some 100 rockets hit northern
Israel within half an hour. At least six are reported killed. Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s chief spokesman said that his group will not agree to a cease-fire until all Israeli troops leave Lebanon.

The rocket fatalities were the most in a single day since eight people were killed July 16, when a rocket struck a train maintenance depot in Haifa.

At least 40 rockets hit northern Israel within several minutes, killing two people in Acre and three in Maalot. Several people, including children, were injured, rescue officials said

In Acre, a rocket hit people who were standing on their balcony, Mayor Shimon Lankry told Israel’s Channel 2 Television. The three people in Maalot were killed when a rocket struck a car, police said.

The U.S. is not a part of the solution but a part of the problems. Given its alliance with Israel and its support of Israel’s occupation of Arab lands, the U.S. cannot play a constructive role in any mediation between palestinians and Israel. Arafat knew it. The Israel refuses to accept any international role in any mediation. The arab regimes are corrupt and in the pockets of the U.S. So, where is the hope?

I think everyone should read the article in the new Rolling Stone magazine on our administration’s desire to start a war with Iran. Apparently this has been in the works since before the Iraq war started. It’s very scary.
