Hours after upbraiding him at a congressional hearing over what she called “failed policy” in Iraq, the junior senator from New York told an AP reporter that Rumsfeld should step down. “The secretary has lost credibility with the Congress and with the people,” she said.

  • Rumsfeld’s latest loss of credibility came during that very hearing. Check it out.

  • AP:

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton on Thursday called on Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to resign, hours after excoriating him at a public hearing over what she called “failed policy” in Iraq.

“I just don’t understand why we can’t get new leadership that would give us a fighting chance to turn the situation around before it’s too late,” the New York Democrat and potential 2008 presidential contender said in an interview with The Associated Press. “I think the president should choose to accept Secretary Rumsfeld’s resignation.”

“The secretary has lost credibility with the Congress and with the people,” she said. “It’s time for him to step down and be replaced by someone who can develop an effective strategy and communicate it effectively to the American people and to the world.”

hillary’s flailing around, trying to seem to be all things to all voters—she’s not too bright if she thinks what went wrong in iraq was due to poor execution—by attacking an easy target like rummy, who was only doing what tubby w told him to do, she thinks she’ll be able to make those who were against going into iraq forget her warmongering ways—let’s just say hillary’s a profile in cowardice: she jumped on the invasion bandwagon when americans were nearly all in favor

Come August 8, 2006 Joe Lieberman could be available for nomination to replace Rumsfeld should Rummy resign in the best interest of the nation.
