French fries and French toast are back on the menu on Capitol Hill—nearly three years of being tagged with the substitute moniker “Freedom.”

Washington Times:

The fries on Capitol Hill are French again.

So is the breakfast toast in the congressional cafeterias, with both fries and toast having been liberated from the appellation “freedom.”

Three years after House Republicans trumpeted the new names to get back at the French for snubbing the coalition of the willing in Iraq, congressmen don’t even want to talk about french fries, which are actually native to Belgium, and toast.

We would still be serving King George (the first one) if the French Navy hadn’t backed up Revolutionary forces at Yorktown. We returned the favor on D-Day. What really bothered the Bush/Cheney mafia was France’s deal with Iraq for oil- the precise reason that Iraq was invaded. Saddam was allowing too much oil production, which was keeping the barrel price too low for the oil president and his corporate friends. Prior to the mass invasion, special forces were deployed in Iraq to secure the oil fields. WMD lies were cooked up to facilitate the seizure of a sovereign country’s assets. Iran is next. The neocons have been quite open about their desire to take over the Middle East and use its resources to their strategic advantage. France was wise not to join the Coalition of the Duped. Even if no country had joined, Bush would have invaded anyway.

Does the change from Freedom Fries to French Fries on the menus of the congressional cafeterias mean that the Republicans have forgiven the French for being right in opposing the U.S. invasion of Iraq?  Probably not.  Rather, GOP and some Democrat legislators do not want to be reminded how wrong they were every time they open their menus.  They don’t want the rest of us to be reminded either.
