Israel Halts Attacks for 48 Hours

The move comes in the wake of its airstrike in the Lebanese village of Qana that killed at least 56 people, most of whom were women and children.

  • This is only a temporary pause—a concession the U.S. extracted from Israel in the wake of withering international criticism. The Israeli attacks will likely continue apace for at least 10 more days, and perhaps more.

  • AP:

Israel suspended air attacks on south Lebanon for 48 hours starting early Monday in the face of widespread outrage over an airstrike on a house that killed 56 Lebanese, almost all of them women and children.

The announcement — made by a State Department spokesman with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice in Jerusalem — appeared to reflect American pressure on Israel to make some concession after the strike.

In addition to suspending air attacks, Israel will also allow the opening of corridors for Lebanese civilians who want to leave south Lebanon for the north and would maintain land, sea and air corridors for humanitarian assistance, officials said.

Israeli officials confirmed Prime Minister Ehud Olmert agreed to an immediate 48-hour halt in the airstrikes beginning at 2 a.m. Monday while the military concludes its inquiry into the attack on the south Lebanese village of Qana. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

I posted this on another thread but it is very relevant here.  Can this tragedy be used to stop a world war?

One doesn’t often associate the word stupid with Jews. C Wright Mills associated the word crackpot with American Foreign policy.  American Foreign Policy has been mostly based on a militarist view of the world, that is, if there was a choice of policy Americans always carried the big stick and took the moral low road.

I was in Israel during the Yom Kipper War.  On Israeli radio they were playing Pete Seeger and Joan Baez and many other anti-war singers and on Arab radio stations they were playing Military Marches.  Who won?

RIGHT WING SCUM IDEAS OF MILITARY DOMINATION NOW DOMINATE IN THE USA AND ISRAEL.  In the long run military policies and ideologies only have negative effects.  The Jews with there walls and the harming of Palestinian lives will only bring calamity on themselves.  Building up reasons for hatred is absolutely stupid. Taking the moral low road is always stupid.  Jews are acting in a very very stupid manner.

However, Fascist ideas have become more and more popular in the USA and Israel.  The words of the peacemakers have been drowned out. Extreme right wing ideologies and racist type thinking has gained a new prominence. A world war is brewing, usually smart people say a plague on both your houses, but today I think we are facing another anti-fascist war. Israelimerikkka has to be defeated.
