Bush Breaks Bread With NAACPPosted on Jul 20, 2006Bush spoke to the NAACP’s annual convention for the first time during his presidency. His speech drew both applause and silence as he addressed the group he has avoided for five years. “I consider it a tragedy that the party of Abraham Lincoln let go of its historic ties with the African-American community,” he said. The move is seen as an attempt to garner support for the Republican Party among black voters in advance of the midterm elections. One report said Bush was a little surprised at the reception he got. Duh! Does he really think he can sashay down to the NAACP convention, present himself, throw out a few patronizing platitudes and win the support of a people who have suffered greatly under his “anti poor” policies?
He was a little surprised at his reception? Is he living in reality? No wonder he has screwed up our country and half the world.

Each of these links are about President Bush. None of them even barely touch upon the NAACP.
The NPR report quotes nobody from the NAACP, yet plenty of Bush. The New York Times piece spends 21 out of 28 paragraphs on Bush. The C-Span link is the speech itself (though does have Bruce Gordon’s intro, and audience facial reactions).
Does the NAACP exist for the sole purpose of helping Bush mollify the black population and gather votes? Is this really the best “slant” NPR and the NYT can come up with?
There was a real chance here to bring to light the important issues of the black community. Instead, we got “The World According to Bush.” Again.
