Israeli Girls Write Messages on Lebanon-Bound Shells

Israeli girls write on shells
AP / Sebastian Scheiner

Israeli girls write messages on a shell at a heavy artillery position near Kiryat Shmona, in northern Israel, next to the Lebanese border, Monday, July 17. Diplomatic efforts to end Israeli-Hezbollah fighting gained traction Monday, with Israeli officials saying the country would agree to halt fighting if its two captured soldiers were returned and Islamic guerrillas withdrew from the border. Publicly, the officials continued to insist their goal was to dismantle Hezbollah, but senior aides to Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said he told his Italian counterpart, Romano Prodi, that Israel would accept cease-fire terms that called for Hezbollah to release the Israeli soldiers and withdraw from the border.

A nauseating sign of the times:

Preteen Israeli girls at a heavy artillery position in northern Israel are photographed apparently gleefully scrawling their names and other inscriptions on shells destined to be dropped on Lebanon. One reads “Nazrala with love”—a reference to Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasarallah.

(h/t: Zak Brown)

We find it disgusting whenever the ordnance of ANY country bears these kinds of messages. But to see children doing the writing is almost beyond the pale.

What a shame. The parents should be punished for this. Kids writing hate on live shells. What is our world coming to? Boycott Israel. No more military aid. Cut off both sides ammo and end the war.

Me I wonder how many readers know what does it mean that the shell heads are in light green.

Who thinks it is for decoration?

Who thinks it’s got a reason?

Won’t you tell us, proud Israeli soldiers?

I think you are all retarded and illiterate. Look at what the girls wrote. “To nazrala with love”. These are girls who live in Kiryat Shmona who get bombared by hezbollah rockets on a weekly basis, and who during the war were hit with thousands of rockets. After 9/11, i would have lined up to sign a bomb “to Osama with love”...theres no difference

I agree with Geronimo and Ms. Schwartz.  I, too, am “heartbroken at the insensitivity and hatred..”  Furthermore, I am aghast that our congress voted today to support Israel’s bombing of Lebanon. It is egregious.  The only voice that makes any sense right now is the voice of Kofi Annan who has called for a ceasefire on both sides:  Israel and the Hezbolla.  Why isn’t the world standing up and saying that bombing Beirut, (because their leadership is weak and seemingly unable to control the Hezbolla) is NOT acceptable.  Why should hundreds of innocent Lebanese be killed and their cities destroyed because Israel is angry over the capture of two of its military.
We should not be supporting Israel with money, weapons, or any equipment.  Lebanon reached out to this nation and asked for help and this President turned a deaf ear.  This President could have made a call to Israeli leadership requesting some form of moderated discussion - a cooling off period.  We are on the brink of a holocaust caused by the middle east’s tribal fighting.  If both sides want to fight, since both sides have indeed been wronged, let them do it with rocks and stones.  I suggest that America needs to get out of the middle eastern conflicts and politics.  America should provide only medicine and food.  Enough of war support.  No more war.
I encourage every citizen to vote against this congress who endorsed Israel’s attacks against Lebanon.  Israel has always felt that we would back them up, no matter what.  It has got to stop.  The acts of bombing and continuing to bomb Beirut are unreasonable and out of proportion.

These teenage girls are Israel’s answer to the young Palestinian suicide/homicide bombers.  While the young Israelis aren’t doing the dirty work themselves,  their signatures and their spirit are inscribed on artillery shells,  some of which are likely to kill or maim Lebanese children, the same age as they are.

That’s the same sort of activity that the Hitler youth engaged in during the days of Nazi Germany. Way to go,  Israelis You’ve succeeded in turning into your former slavemasters.  That’s what happens when the ex-slave becomes a colonizer,  because to colonize is to enslave others..  Unfortunately,  with each subsequent generation,  being the slavemaster gets easier and easier.  The smiles on the faces of the young girls say it all.

I agree with the writer of that article.  I feel sick in my heart - literally, heart-broken at the insensitivity and hatred coming from both sides.  I feel as if some of the humans on this planet are living in the Dark Ages.
