Breaking: Bush to Submit to Eavesdropping Oversight?Posted on Jul 13, 2006Sen. Arlen Specter on Thursday revealed a bill that would require a court to review the constitutionality of the National Security Agency’s controversial intelligence-gathering program, saying the deal was negotiated with the Bush administration’s cooperation. An administration official said the White House would accept Specter’s legislation if Congress does not change it dramatically. The Pennsylvania Republican unveiled the bill at a meeting of the Senate Judiciary Committee, which he chairs. The American people need to stand up and remove their government or suffer the consequences from a world which has had enough of the American Third Reich.

I can see it now…media coverage, press conferences, everybody in Washington falling all over themselves pointing out how wonderful it is that the administration has agreed to oversight (even though they are legally required to already). And once the tv cameras are off, King George adds his little note on the bill: “Even though I signed this bill and made a big deal out of supporting it, it will not apply to my administration in any way.”
