Hallelujah! Spanish Leader Snubs Pope

More than a million worshipers in Spain showed up to hear the pope deliver a homily in which he made a veiled attack on Spain’s liberal legal attitude toward gay marriage and divorce. Conspicuously not in attendance: the Spanish prime minister. It’s apparently the first time in history that a Spanish leader has missed such an address.
Que bueno. Memo to Pope Benedict XVI: Keep on dressing up hate speech as The Good News and you’ll continue to be marginalized by more-enlightened world leaders.

Telegraph:

More than a million worshippers congregated at the city’s futuristic arts and science park, where the Pope gave a homily praising the traditional family founded on the “indissoluble marriage between a man and a woman”.

In a veiled attack on the liberal laws introduced by Mr Zapatero’s socialist government since it came to power two years ago, the pontiff said: “In contemporary culture, we often see an excessive exaltation of the freedom of the individual.”

Mr Zapatero’s government has been at loggerheads with the Roman Catholic Church over a domestic programme of radical legislation, which includes giving marriage and adoption rights to homosexuals and relaxing divorce laws.

Que bueno. Memo to anonymous author: Keep on portraying ETERNAL TRUTH as “hate speech” and you may find yourself marginalized by THE Enlightened One.

Hate speech? really now…look in the mirror.

Rather than attempting to pander to the “religious” right, perhaps it is not too early for Democrats to initiate a strategy that condemns all the faith-based madness that polarizes and paralyses this planet.  The Sunnis hate the Shiites; the Serbs the Croats; the Muslims the Hindus…Certainly there is a constituency out here that is sick and tired of all that crap—a constituency that is not merely waiting like passive cows for the so-called Rapture, a vision of hell on earth, and seeks to ennoble the days of our lives right now.
