The Atlantic:

That was one headline out of this morning’s session with Colin Powell, Justice Stephen Breyer, Senator Bob Bennett, and Mike McConnell.

“Guantanamo ought to be closed immediately,” Powell said. He said the value of holding prisoners there was unclear, but the price we were paying around the world for doing so was obvious.

No matter how much Powell reasons against the Bush II war, it still rings false since he was a principal actor in justifying the invasion. Would Bush have dared invade Iraq if there were WMD? People trusted Powell at one time - me too. However, it’s better late than never admitting his “conduct unbecoming an officer.”

This and Powell’s interchange with Arianna Huffington reported in a posting by her to huffingtonpost.com should be in the headlines of all the MSM Talking Head shows Sunday morning.

“In between panels, I ran into Colin Powell and asked him if we are ever going to get out of Iraq. `We are,” he told me, “but we’re not going to leave behind anything we like because we are in the middle of a civil war.` Powell and Jack Murtha both talking about Civil War in Iraq—shouldn’t that be headline news?”
