Oh my goodness. I live in Georgia, I’m not a homosexual, and I’m saddened and dismayed at what I thought might, just might be a glimmer of hope for us, as a state, to stand out as a light in the darkness of what seems to be the freaking middle ages.
What was I thinking?
And Mr. Spencer - A glimmer of hope for you.
Everyone has the chance to become enlightened. Even you. You can even educate yourself, if you choose! Homosexuality isn’t a practice. Sex is a practice. If you practice enough, you can become good at it, too. Kapish?

Rick,
HIV was a heterosexual reality LONG before gays entered the pandemic, especially in Africa. But because that continent is populated with people of color—black people—the world was quick to forget.
Did gay people whine about the “straight plague” that had decimated our communities? Did we call names and point fingers? No. We created organizations like The Gay Men’s Health Crisis in New York City that looked for SOLUTIONS.
Just because gay people don’t do, say, or believe the things that you do doesn’t mean that we don’t deserve our place at the table.
What is it about straight relationships that you feel makes them so vulnerable to a commitment of love between two consenting same-sexed adults?
The bottom line is that you’re afraid that you may have to show respect for people that you don’t like or agree with.
Hmmm sounds a lot like the philosophy of a famous fellow from Jerusalem.
Get it? Just a glimmer?

Lets look at this another way:
why in the name of the almighty tax dollar is government involved in the business of marriage in the first place?
My wife and I were married in a church, that was important to us. The next day we had to mosey on down to the “bureaucracy” office and set the wheels in motion for another misuse of my tax $$
Let marriage be the churches business, get Govt doing what it should and get it out of wasting our money

re #13127 - Rick Spencer
Sorry, Mr. Spencer… the “dumbest” comment award goes to you. Not only does it reveal a profound ignorance of the NORMS of human sexuality, and YES, homosexuality is one of the NORMS… maybe not for YOU, specifically, BUT THEN YOU’RE NOT THE CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE AND THE STANDARD AGAINST WHICH ALL OTHERS ARE JUDGED, ARE YOU?
BTW, BY FAR.... the majority of “spreading” of HIV is being done by.... TaDa! HETEROSEXUALS… know why, jerk? Because the majority of humans having sex, and sticking themselves with needles are HETEROS (or they claim to be)!
You have the HOMOS to thank for bringing HIV to the attention of the even more ignorant “authorities” who, because they did nothing but stall and dither, ALLOWED AND ENABLED THE EPIDEMIC TO GO WORLD WIDE.
Please, Rick Spencers of this world, LEARN SOME FACTS before you treat the rest of us to the depth of your ignorance and breadth of your prejudices.

Gay & Lesbian folk… look at it this way. You’ve been disallowed membership in the pathetic, co-dependent, hypocritical, dysfunctional institution that heteros cherish to death-do-they-part (or whenever either party wants someone fresher to sleep with.) Celebrate!
Marriage doesn’t work for more than 50% of the hetero couples who try it. Would you put your money into a bank that had a very good chance of failing and taking your life savings with it? Would you buy a car that had a 50/50 chance of making it to it’s next tune up? Not if you had any brains, you wouldn’t.
So forget traditional “marriage.” Join with the person you love… carve out a relationship that works for you both… and let the ignorant Luddites of the world enjoy stewing in their own anarchistic traditions. Start your own tradition. Screw the madding crowds of lemmings.
If you can’t form a legitimate loving same-sex family in the LAND OF THE FREE, then MOVE. There are plenty of FIRST CLASS countries in this world where you will be welcomed and supported as equal and valued citizens and where you will enjoy a life and lifestyle every bit as satisfying as anything you’ll find in America these days. Who the hell needs the aggravation that living in the USA has become?

Report thisGlimmer of hope for who?
This has to be one of the all time dumbest comments I’ve ever read. Nothing enlightened about homosexuality. Nothing healthy about the practice that has spread HIV throughout the world. Grow up and stop acting like this practice should be encouraged.

I’m sorry about the gay marriage ban in N.Y. and Georgia.
Canada’s new right-wingnut prime minister wants to bring the already-passed law legalizing gay marriage back before parliament again in the fall, in spite of the fact that most Canadians (over two-thirds) don’t want the matter opened up again. He has to keep the crazies that voted him in happy though. Since we have more than two political parties, he became the big cheese with a minority government, although only 36% of voters voted for him. In a few short months he has wreaked havoc up here (extended Afghanistan deployment and a scrapped Kyoto accord, with lots more nasties up his ample sleeves, I’m sure).
Today, he’s visiting in Washington with Dubya on his birthday. (Mom must have said he could have some friends over.)
I noticed on the official White House site, which I look at after I’ve checked out the satirical one (I know, I know...it’s not good for my blood pressure) that “President Bush participates in a Joint Press Availability with the Prime Minister Harper of Canada”.
“The” Prime Minister Harper? Would that be to distinguish him from the other prime minister, whoever he may be?
The best bit was the “Joint Press Availability”. Whose bit of Newspeak was that? If the press complains that the president doesn’t speak to them, they just give the whole thing a different name. That’ll fix everything.
One good thing, though. On Canada Day, July 1st, last Saturday, two male members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police married each other in their full red dress uniforms. It was a private ceremony, no press allowed, but they did release a picture. Congratulations, guys.
Prime Minister Harper’s poodle caucus was instructed by its supreme leader not to comment on the wedding to the press. I guess these guys (and a few token women) didn’t realize that being elected as Conservative members of parliament meant shutting up forever unless they were told they could speak.

The NYS Supremes dropped the ball.
They did not rule as to constitutionality- just that if changes were to come, they had to be legislated. And since the ability to change thru legislation is “there"- then the law on the books is “okay.”
A simple yes or no answer was all we were looking for. This is a non-answer. It is very apparent they did not want to be deemed “radical judges” by the far right.
