Enron Corp. founder Ken Lay, who six weeks ago was found guilty in one of the biggest corporate scandals in U.S. history, and who was expected to face decades in prison for his fraud and conspiracy convictions in the Enron collapse, died of a heart attack on Wednesday. He was 64.

Reuters:

Enron Corp. founder Ken Lay died of a heart attack on Wednesday, six weeks after being found guilty of fraud in one of the biggest corporate scandals in U.S. history.

Lay, 64, was awaiting sentencing later this year and was expected to face decades in prison for his fraud and conspiracy convictions in the Enron collapse.

“Ken Lay passed away early this morning,” Lay family spokeswoman Kelly Kimberly said in a statement.

Was Ken Lay’s body tested for the drug that was used on Kathy Augustine?

Always seemed a curious death.

He had so much money and the best medical care in the world, but yet, he suddenly had heart disease and then dies of a heart attack right before sentencing, and now his defense quickly trying to convince the public that since he’s gone, then, the govt can’t get any money, and then a cremation? Oh and don’t forget the 200 grand yacht he just bought a month ago, even after the court told him he would be repaying millions!!! Whoever believes he “just died” needs a brain transplant....

Newest twist is that the body that’s supposed to be “Ken Lay” will be cremated.

Wonder how many of Ken’s kin have ever been cremated? Sounds quite different than his tradition, growing up the son of a Baptist preacher, and now attending church non-stop.

I want to be sure that the coroner’s report does NOT stop at determination of cause-of-death. There needs to be a comprehensive proof of identity.

Stop the cremation!

Are they really going to cremate the evidence that Ken Lay is really dead, or alive?

Is there no way to get independent verification that he really did die?

A Birthday Dialogue:  Hmmm......."Let’s see.... what can we get George W. for his birthday??” Hmmmm...... “Oh I know! That pesky Kenny Boy could be removed from the scene of unfolding events.” “Really? How would you do that?” “Well, he could either have a “heart attack” or a “traffic accident"." “Oh come on, isn’t that a bit too Soviet-style for people to fall for”........ “Are you kidding? Nothing’s “too Soviet”, for this Administration, I vote for a “heart attack” fewer police, no wreckage pictures to be endlessly examined and another good thing, no gift wrap”

..And out come the conspiracy theories!

Why is it that when someone of power or importance dies, especially someone with government contacts, or when anything at all government related occurs it is assumed that we are being lied to?
The man was 64, he had just been convicted of one of the most famous crimes in history and he was sentenced to years in prison. That’s far from a stress free situation. A heart attack in such a situation is likely. Yes, it could even have been suicide. But what possible benefit would assassination have? Yes, it can be considered a possibility, but should we spend any more money and time on it?

I figured he was just going to be pardoned in January 2009, with Scooter and the rest of those criminals, then this!

Is there anyone in the Bush Administration that would have been interested in keeping Lay quiet?

Or maybe Kenny Boy is just planning to Lay Low in Saudi Arabia while some stiff is being buried in his place.

Open casket please!

Are you kidding...with all that money and ties to the Bush family -not to mention all the secrets about the Bush Administration....Lay has either been murdered or he’s sitting on a beach somewhere drinking a Pina Colada!!

What’s it cost to buy a body (from a source where it wouldn’t be missed, eg India or the morgue in Baghdad), fix it up to seem your own and leave it where it might be found?

Really.

I wonder who has this expertise… and what the cost would be. Would you replicate the dental or the fingerprints or a doctor’d tissue/DNA sample… and even if you did all 3, could it possibly cost more than a couple of million USD?

There’s no question how much the Lay residual fortune would be willing to pay. Millions would be just a start… (heck, _I_ would be thinking to do this if I faced a rest-of-life prison term and had millions to spend).

Surely this case needs more than cause-of-death forensic assessment. I think it needs full-out, all-means-possible measures of identify verification.

Committing suicide was probably one of the few honorable acts in Mr. Lay’s lifetime— saving taxpayers from $30,000 per year and denying Bush’s Prison-Owner-Pals the difference in profit…

There’s a lot stress when you’re convicted of one of the major white collar crimes of the decade and are facing incarceration ( even in a white collar facility ). Let the punishment fit the crime.
