Goldwater Nephew Calls for Forced Immigrant Labor Camps

Dan Goldwater, a gubernatorial candidate in Arizona and nephew of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater, told a Spanish news agency that he wanted to hold undocumented immigrants in camps to use them “as labor in the construction of a wall and to clean the areas of the Arizona desert that they’re polluting.”

  • He claims, however, that his words were taken out of context—that he only wanted to put convicted immigrant felons to work….

  • AP:

A Republican gubernatorial candidate’s call for creation of a forced labor camp for illegal immigrants drew rebukes Friday from two GOP lawmakers, who labeled it a low point in the immigration debate.

Don Goldwater, nephew of the late Sen. Barry Goldwater, caused an international stir this week when EFE, a national news agency of Spain, quoted him as saying he wanted to hold undocumented immigrants in camps to use them “as labor in the construction of a wall and to clean the areas of the Arizona desert that they’re polluting.”

The article described Goldwater’s plan as a “concentration camp” for migrants.

“Taken out of context”?  Oh, puh-leeeeeeeze…why people think that statement is a satisfactory excuse for acute foot-in-mouth disease, I’ll never know. Does anybody seriously believe it—especially when the embarrassing quotes which inevitably prompt this sort of backpedalling are right there in black and white a matter of public record for all the world to see? This excuse is so overused that it’s positively trite, and so pathetically LAME that it only serves to compound the original error as far as I’m concerned. I’d have a lot more respect for some of these folks would have the guts to grow a spine and face the consequences of their remarks instead of trying to rewrite history and convince people that they didn’t *really* say what they said when everyone knows they did—this only serves to demonstrate how little integrity these people have, and how willing they are to sacrifice their own beliefs for political expediency. It’s sickening.

What the hell is going on here? How could anyone in this century even consider something as horrific as this?

This is the real GOP position on the immigration issue. It’s all about slave labor.
