Rove Won’t Be Charged in Leak Case

That’s the word from special prosecutor Patrick Fitzgerald and Rove’s lawyer. This comes after months of behind-the-scenes negotiations between the two sides. Bush called Fitzgerald’s conduct throughout the proceeding “dignified.”

N.Y. Times:

WASHINGTON, June 13 ? The decision by a special prosecutor not to bring charges against Karl Rove in the C.I.A. leak case followed months of intense behind-the-scenes maneuvering between the prosecutor, Patrick J. Fitzgerald, and Mr. Rove’s lawyer, lawyers in the case said.

The move, made public early Tuesday by Mr. Rove’s lawyer, Robert D. Luskin, brought a surprise ending to the investigation of Mr. Rove, President Bush’s senior adviser. At one point last fall, Mr. Rove seemed close to facing perjury charges over lapses in his early testimony about a conversation with a Time magazine reporter.

Mr. Fitzgerald’s decision left I. Lewis Libby Jr., the former chief of staff to Vice President Dick Cheney, alone among current and former White House officials still facing legal jeopardy in the three-year-old leak case. Mr. Fitzgerald announced in a letter to Mr. Luskin on Monday that he would not indict Mr. Rove, who had testified on five occasions to a federal grand jury about his involvement in the disclosure of an intelligence officer’s identity.

So what if Rove won’t be charged?  Isn’t it about time we stopped ruminating on the lies and crimes of the commander-in-chief & his cronies, since, as it’s turned out, we’re the only ones paying any attention to such stuff?  It’s like we’re turned around, walking backwards with our eyes fixed on where we’ve just been, while at the same time our enemies (the powers that be) are putting another one over on us..  So what do we do?  We need to start talking about an America (a world, actually) that’s truly of, for and by the people and how we can get there, that’s what.

with the white house people walking around with there tails between there legs, bush changing his story about now it has to be an indited staff person that would have to answer. its hard to believe that the white house is innocent. i just think that fitzgerald had almost enough, but just couln’t get to them.i hope i’m wrong but, with the white house track record i don’t think so.

... and Republicrats and eejits will rejoice, forgetting that Rove lied, was caught lying, and acknowledged lying, regardless of the question about the legality of the leaking. Quite simply, this guy’s a liar. But will they remember that? Sadly, no.

Do we dare hazard an optimistic guess that Mr. Fitzgerald has a bigger fish to fry?  Is it possible that that paragon of truth and honor, Mr. Rove, saved his villainous ass by frying Mr. Cheney’s likewise ass? Afterall, the demise of Mr. Cheney would certainly help those sewer-bound poll numbers.

I can’t imagine George Bush governing without Rove at his side. I guess he breathed a long sigh of relief! ( And quickly forgot any promises to fire anyone in his administration who leaked. “Did I say leaked? He, he. I meant anybody who gets convicted] for leaking.” )

With as much as Fitzgerald has already made public, it’s hard to presume him innocent.
