U.S. Raids Follow Zarqawi’s DeathPosted on Jun 10, 2006American forces carried out almost 40 raids in the wake of the airstrike death of the terrorist leader. But as Truthdig contributor Nir Rosen writes, the absence of Zarqawi is likely to lead to greater sectarian bloodshed in Iraq.

First we heard that Zarqawi was dead when they found him.
Next, we heard that he muttered something before he died, but no one could understand what he said.
After that, they said he struggled and tried to get away when he saw the American uniforms.
What next? He sprang from the rubble with a knife clenched between his teeth and waving an AK-47, threatening anyone who tried to get near him?
This whole story gets more ridiculous with every retelling.
